Best snorkeling in Oahu

We are traveling to Oahu in the beginning of April and LOVE to snorkel. Where are the best places to snorkel there? I am very excited to hear your responses!

Thanks

Well, Hanauma Bay is a logical answer. Snorkeling there is great - however, get there EARLY or risk the place being too full. I suspect there are good spots on Kaneohe Bay but not familiar enough with the area to be able to make any specific recommendations.

Agree with Hanauma Bay and agree with getting there early! The fish swam around our feet as we entered the water!

Hanauma Bay is OK-gets crowded and sometimes the water gets "cloudy" like
Miso soup-that was my experience-my favorite place is Shark's Cove up by Sunset Beach-and there's no charge!

How early is early? 8:00 a.m. okay, you think? Would the water be clear still? Thanks!

Check to see what time it opens and get there before the gates open. My kids thought it was great fun to get there that early and have the place almost to themselves. You won't believe the line of cars to get in. One car out, one in. No fun.

Thanks for all these great suggestions. One tip I learned about Hanauma Bay was that it is closed on Tuesday. I also heard the bit about getting there early.
Razzledazzle- tell me about your experience at Shark's Cove.
LordBalfor- Where is Kaneohe Bay?
Rhonda- What time did you and your kids get there? How old are your kids? We have two teenagers going who haven't done much snorkeling.
Cd and Buzzmom thanks for chiming in!

Tracy,

Kaneohe Bay is on the windward shore, north-northeast of Honolulu. It's the largest bay in Hawaii, and located behind the only true barrier reef in the state. As a result, the water there tends to be relatively calm. It's for that reasons that I would think the snorkeling should be good - though keep in mind that I am just making an educated guess. I'm hoping someone else can either confirm or deny. We passed through the area but did not stop to snorkel (just didn't have the time).
