Best Small Town to Live around W. Jefferson/Boone, N.C.
 

Considering moving to N.C. Mountains in the next 6 months! I would love to hear feedback from locals as to areas around W. Jefferson/Boone area. I'm looking for a small town/village where expenses aren't so high (due to tourism?) but has a quaint downtown. I am retired so I don't need to look for an area with particular job opportunities. I plan on renting initially until I am certain I want to live there. Any ideas?!? Thanks!

That is already such a small area--come rent and find out for yourself. Seems a really odd question because it is already so limited. GREAT part of the country. But whether there is a community that will welcome someone from "away" is difficult to say in the mountains of NC.
