Best route TOMORROW: SFO to Stinson Beach/ Bolinas?

My daughters will be leaving San Francisco Airport at about 5 pm tomorrow, Friday. They are driving up to the town of Bolinas, north of Stinson Beach.

Google shows going on the 280 and #1 to the Golden Gate bridge, or using 101 all the way to GG Bridge. It also says the time will be about the same (1 hr 20 mins to 2 hours) for each route.

Which way do you recommend?

And would that be the same route they should use on Sunday morning leaving Bolinas at about 6:30 am for 11 am flights?

They're taking their 87 yr old grandma, so we want things to go smoothly!

I suggest they stop for an early dinner just after leaving the airport and continue on later, when there's some hope of not being stuck in traffic. I think the 280 route is easier. Obviously Sunday morning there will be little traffic but I'd still prefer 280.

Ugh, that's a tough one since they don't know the area and probably don't want to be driving after dark. I would let them know that at that time of day it is probably going to take about 2 hours.

Best idea, try to go standby on an earlier flight! And fire whoever booked the tickets.

Use Google map, but instead of going on 101 into SF, take 280 to 19th Ave. (signage is good) to cross SF in the western side to the Golden Gate Bridge. Google map suggests taking CA1 to Bolinas, but if twisty roads are a problem for the driver, taking Sir Francis Drake Blvd. to Olema and then going south to Bolinas is a better bet.

I would not want to be driving the twisty cliff side road to Stinson for the first time after dark.

Thanks to all your warnings, my kids headed directly to Bolinas once the second daughter arrived. They got there before dark and say they're happy they did! They also now plan to allow extra travel time when returning to SFO on Sunday.

Clark, I'd have to fire myself! I was trying to get them to Bolinas as early as possible, but one DD had to work (in NYC) till 7pm last night, the other had to put in a half day of work today in Austin TX, and 87 yr old Grandma in Hawaii needed to arrive at a time when she wouldn't have to wait in the airport for hours.
