Best route from north myrtle beach to Hartford ct
 

Can someone help me with the best route without having to pay so many tolls please from nmb to Connecticut I keep hearing about 81 but have no clue how to get on thanks

maps.google.com will show you how to get to 81.

To avoid tolls and take 81 you will add many miles to the trip.

Take rt 17 north to I-40 west to i-74 to I-77 to I-81.

I'm not sure the extra gas and time would be worth it just to avoid tolls.

You could use one of the mapping programs and ask it to route you and click on the avoid tolls option for other routes.

Google has it as a 12 hour drive straight up I95. I guess there may be tolls on the NJ portion. I hope you aren't (as I did) interpreting the road construction icons for tolls.
To get to I81 from NMB, take 501 west. It will change to 301 and 76 but stay straight to Darlington. Take Route 151 to Pageland and 601 to charlotte and I77. I77 north to I81.

Emalloy's post made me look at a map and an even better possibility than mine or hers may be to take 501 west as noted until you hit Route 52. Take that north to hit I74 and I77.

BUT I agree I81 is really out of the way. Tolls == shorter time/less gas to buy

I don't know what your plan is for the New York City area. Avoid difficulty by staying west of the Hudson and cross at the Tappan Zee Bridge, and then it's a straight shot east to Hartford.

You don't want to take 81.

No tolls until Baltimore tunnels and then 95 north of Baltimore. So just go up 95 to I-695 Baltimore beltway , making sure you're not around DC area at either rush hour(s)To avoid 95 tolls, take I-83 north from I-695 to Harrisburg PA, then east on I-78 to NJ, then I-287 north to either Tappan Zee bridge or farther north to I-84 into CT, depending on where in CT you're ending up.

Google's 12 hours on I-95 is fiction unless you leave at 6PM and drive all night.
It does not include stopping to buy gas, eat, or use the toilet.

On the other hand, driving I-81 etc is going to take a lot longer than 12 hours.

Google has an "Avoid toll roads" option that gets you to mid-CT in an equally fictional 13 hours but takes you by a slightly different route, perhaps with less traffic. You still have to pay a steep toll to cross the Hudson and maybe to cross the Delaware at Easton. Maybe not. But you avoid the Harbor Tunnel tolls in Baltimore the outrageous Maryland and Delaware Turnpikes, and both the NJTP and the GSP.

Better hurry, though. On November 1, the gas tax in New Jersey goes from 3rd cheapest in the country to one of the highest. No more fill ups at $2.00!
