best route for older rv to drive across country nor-cal/oregon - nj
#3
The maximum elevation on I-90 is 2000 feet lower than the maximum on I-80. According to Google maps, heading up to I-90 would add a couple hours overall from central Oregon (say Bend) to central NJ. IMO it's a much nicer ride, however.

I-40 is another option - I haven't actually driven this route so take this suggestion with a grain of salt - but it looks like the elevations are lower. It DOES go through the desert though, so depending on the time of year, you may or may not want to take an older RV across the desert.

I travel I-40 all the time. It has some up and down in New Mexico and around Flagstaff, Az. But lots of mountains getting down to Barstow where you pick up I-40 then on to the Arizona line. I drive a "big rig" and travel a lot. Haven't been all the way thru on I-90. You see a lot more vehicles overheated in the desert than farther north. The mountains aren't as tall but long pulls in 100 + degree. I've seen a lot of new vehicles on the side with the hood up. Even I-10 is a hard hot pull.
