Best Room Type at Asilomar Conference Center (outside of Monterey CA)?

I'm planning on spending a night at Asilomar Conference Center in June. Right now, they have historical rooms, standard rooms, and standard rooms with a fireplace available. Any suggestions on which is best? They are all within $10 of each other so any is fine in terms of price. I'd love to get ocean front but I know that can't be guaranteed. My main concern is a decent bed.

Thanks!

We have reservations for May 1st and 2nd in a standard room. Taking advantage of their special $99/night B&B special.
I believe the historic rooms are rather basic.
Can't help on the ocean front question.

Get a fireplace. Few of the actual rooms are going to knock your socks off. But when you are able to light a *real* fire, and look out at your surroundings--that's what makes it special. And if you get an ocean view too, wow.

I was there for a conference, and my roommates and I made sure we had a bottle of red wine each night for the fire! I don't remember the bed, so I guess it was just fine.

Great birding too, birder.

I think most of the non conference fireplace rooms are the futhest from the ocean. I find the the way to get an ocean view room, if any are available, is to check in as early to check in time as possible because rooms are assigned on first come basis. (We usually check in a little earlier than the stated check in time). Request a room in the View Crescent when you check in and see if you can get White Caps, they have balconies with ocean views.

Thank you everyone. SAB, are the View Crescent rooms historic rooms or standard rooms?

Standard--BTW Spindrift has the best ocean views in the View Crescent cluster; but there are 2 Spindrift buildings and one does not have the great balcony views. The one that faces the Chapel building is more desirable IMHO.
