Best Restaurants in Pittsburgh

Looking to send an elderly foodie uncle a restaurant gift certificate for Xmas. Any ideas. He likes all foods but I may go with Italian. What is your favorite restaurant Italian and otherwise?

Considering Lidia's but that may be a tade trendy for him.

Well I live in Pittsburgh. Where at in Pittsburgh are you staying it depends how far you want to go. Anyway there are Italian Restaurants on the South Side one called Abruzzi's they have Italian. And another place called Bruschettas. Then there is a place called 17th street cafe not sure if they are italian. I had two out the three and they are good. Then there is a place called Fat Heads that isnt Italian they serve pretty much everything in large portions.

I would second Abruzzi's for traditional Italian. A family owned restaurant with consistently high quality. Their new space on the Southside is beautiful.

Thanks pgh1974 does not have to be italian. I am sending him gift certificates in the mail so location is not an issue.

Looking for people's ideas of best places in town to eat.

Thanks again. Thanks too black and gold.

Le Pommier - South Side - French
Monterey Bay - Mount Washington - Fish/ Seafood
Palate - downtown - French - theater district
Six Penn - downtown- American theater district.
You should be able to find these restaurants websites and get a better idea of what your uncle would like.

Live just outside of Pitt - one of the best Italian places - La Tavola which is on Mt. Washington. It is BYOB ... or BYOW (bring your own wine), but really good. Also love Papparazzi's on the South Side.

I was in Pittsburgh for a conference and ate at Lidia's. It was fantastic. I had frito misto and braised shredded duck in a very tasty sauce over gnocchi.

Tessaro's - Best burgers & ribs
Eleven - Amazing, but can get pricey
The Church Brew Works - The best bread pudding you can get in a microbrewery that once was a church!
Thai Place - My favorite Thai restaurant in Pittsburgh

Of course, any Pittsburgher would appreciate a gift certificate to Primanti Brothers or "The O" ;)

Pittsburgh now has a Capital Grille. Fabulous and expensive. Can probably get a gift card online.
