Thanks for clarifying auntie. I can always count on you for the latest and greatest Kauai info. I knew it was closing in Septmeber, and I thought I read in one your messages that Cafe Hanalei had closed too, but I must have been thinking about the seafood buffet.

My two favorite places to eat are Gaylord's and Duke's. At Duke's you have the choice of a more informal dining at the barefoot bar or more formal upstairs. I really like the salad bar.

We dined at the Hanalei Dolphin a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

So..there are Wolfpackers out there. Well, better than Dookies!

We are splitting our time between North and South shores.

Kauai experts, can any of you tell me and DH what happened to Jean-Marie Josselin? 'A Pacific Cafe' in Kapa'a used to create our most delicious and memorable meals!

A Pacific Cafe closed around 4 or 5 years ago.

When A Pacific Cafe closed, business friends told us he'd gone BK and left them holding the bag.

I believe he owns 808 Restaurant in Las Vegas, and will be reopening on Oahu in the near future.

Using google.com, I searched for recent news of Jean-Marie Josselin -- very interesting stuff along the way...divorced, opened 808 in Vegas, opened another one in San Diego in 2004, etc.

Appreciate the background. Thanks. Great chef but not a businessman? And of course the divorce mess. We first experienced his cuisine many many years ago when he was VERY briefly involved with Michel's at the Colony Surf. Then some openings and closures except for the original A Pacific.

A couple of years ago we had an exceptionally delicious entree at Hyatt's Tidepools, met the chef (who's no longer there) and he had worked with Jean-Marie, so at least his culinary influence continued.

Add me to those who wouldn't bother with a meal at the Beach House. Lousy food and service. But it is a great place for cocktails and to watch the sunset.

Also not that crazy about Roy's anymore. They seem to be living off their reputation. Not to say that the food is bad, but it just doesn't seem that imaginative and the service isn't all that great.

Very much enjoy Plantation Gardens and Tidepools, both food and service.

ET, I feel the same way about Roy's. It just doesn't live up to the Wow it once presented.

We didn't have a good experience with The Beach House this past March. Maybe I am not as picky as I thought.
