Best restaurant in Adams Morgan Area
My family and I will be staying near Columbia Rd NW and 18th St NW. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on what restaurants would be good. My kids don't like exotic, looking for something reasonably priced.

Hear's your other post. I bet you thought you lost it.

Hmm. Adams-Morgan is known for its wide variety of ethnic restaurants. Do your kids consider ethnic the same as exotic? If so, you may have to find the McDonald's for them. You and your wife, on the other hand, could have a great time choosing from the wonderful restaurant selection!

Here's some restaurants from the Washingtonian reviews. Maybe "The Diner" will fit your needs, but I doubt it could be considered the "Best restaurant in Adams Morgan area." Cashion's, however, is top-rated, but a bit expensive. Have a good trip!

Might want to check on chowhound.com for some additional reviews and opinions, as well.

There is a McDonalds right on the very intersection you are staying at. In fact, you chose one of the liveliest cross-spots in DC. Other places your kids may like are The Diner (which serves exactly what it says) and Tryst coffeehouse. Both are on 18th just a few storefronts south of that intersection.
But this hip area would be a great opportunity to introduce your kids to ethnic fare that is fun and affordable! Julia's Empanadas, also on 18th, serves pastries stuffed with different fillings like chorizo sausage, potatoes, and eggs. Good stuff. I believe Tom Tom (on 18th and California) serves up great pizzas. You chose a great location. You won't have to walk far to have a good time, and the Metro stop is just a quick walk to Connecticut across the bridge. |
I would agree with the Diner if the kids aren't adventurous. While it is a diner, it is a "yuppie" diner so we are talking meatloaf and chardonnay, not greasy spoon.
Can you lure the kids into something very exotic but fun (they get to eat with their hands????). If so, you should try Ethopian food, which DC is probably the best place in the U.S. to dine. |
I agree with the general theme of the above posts: it would be a real shame to stay in Adams-Morgan and avoid all the ethnic restaurants, because they are what that area is known and loved for! You've gotten a great list and some good ideas; I would add that you should check out the restaurant guide at washingtonpost.com. You can plug in neighborhood, price range, and cuisine to get a list of recommendations. Have fun!
