Best Raincoat for Travel
 

I saw someone wearing a raincoat recently that I thought would be perfect for travel. It was black, lightweight, long length, had a hood, and was made of a crinkly material so wrinkles/folding didn't really matter. I can't remember how it fastened up the front, but it was just really easy to throw on over clothes and it was not very fitted. She said it was a gift so she did not know where it came from.

Anyone have a favorite raincoat (or one like this) that you could suggest? I want one to stash in my car and/or suitcase -- I am tired of letting rainy days ruin my fun.

I have a "collection" of several, over 30 years. Fabric(s) magnificent, fit flattering, "features" are amazing, choice of colors could not be more flattering...

thank you for the suggestion. They only have one longer length lightweight coast on their website, but it's still not what I am looking for. I want something VERY light, unlined, that I can just throw on. Not looking for warmth necessarily, more for the convenience of something I can ball up/fold up in my purse or travel backpack in case I get caught in the rain. Any more suggestions anyone?

REI has quite a few. I have a marmot that fits your description that I love.

I have a few by Mycra Pac. They come in several styles, lengths and fabrics, and can be stuffed in a purse. They are great for layering; but still look a little dressy for travel.

For me, I love those dorky little $1 rain ponchos.

Because they're poncho style, they will go over my purse and/or camera bag to keep them dry also. They have a hood. If you get the clear ones, they go with everything and people can still see your "great style" through it.

They also work very well in outdoor settings. I used one at a music festival. Put it on over me and the beach chair and I never got a wet seat. Add a small umbrella and you're set to go.

I have an extremely lightweight North Face jacket that is Gore-Tex. I bring it everywhere we travel.

Your description sounds like one I bought several years ago. It's the Totes brand, purchased at one of their stores at a factory outlet. Don't know if they're still available, but I love mine.

here is the one I have. I have it in a short length and a long length. it folds into the pocketbook and/or you can use the pocketbook as a bag if it is pouring out or I have used the bag to carry shoes in if I am changing from boots when I get to where I am going ! - it is the mycra pak, it doesn't wrinkle - I use it at home as well as when I travel if I need something dressier than a rainjacket.

It is a long black traditional raincoat that has a tie belt and folds into a pouch about 1/2 the size of one of those old airline pillows. It is really small and does not weigh much.
