Best Railroad Excursions?

We will be visiting southern Colorado in June. We would like to do one or two of the railroad excursions while there. Please let us know your favorites. Thanks!

Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge train. Catch the morning train to Silverton, bus return. http://www.durangotrain.com/

+1 sludick. It doesn't matter which way you go just be sure to do only one way and take the bus back; 2 ways is just the same thing twice and takes pretty much the whole day. If you go from Durango to Silverton, sit on the right side of the car. IF you go from Silverton TO Durango, sit on the left side.

Thanks for the feedback about only going one way on the train. Do you prefer the Durango & Silverton excursion to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad?

I do. I think the ride on Durango/Silverton is prettier. The 2 towns on either end are way better than on Cumbres.

When we did Cumbres, there was no choice but to do round trip and to eat in a buffet style restaurant that the train ran which was $$ and not very good - they ran out of food! I think you can bring a picnic lunch. It is a long day and a drive to even get to the start.
