Once again coming to NY!!!!And as in previous years asking your advice for good plays to see . We will be in NY from october 20 to 31st. Last time we enjoyed Osage in its first rehersal night.
We like plays better than musicals.

I'd get tickets immediately for All My Sons.
Boeing, Boeing is perhaps one of the best done comedy/farces I've ever seen staged. If you want some silliness, this is it.
39 Steps is interesting and fun -- four people play a dozen or more characters in a sort of spoof of Hitchcock's movie by the same name. I'd suggest you rent the movie before seeing it to refresh your memory or make it more enjoyable.

There aren't a lot of plays right now, we're kind of between them -- and that includes off-Broadway.

Equus with Daniel Radlcliffe and Richard Griffiths opens in previews Sept 5 and opening night Sept. 25. Would be my first choice. I'd watch Richard Griffiths read the phone book. Speed the Plow with Jeremy Piven opens in previews Oct 3.

I failed to look at Equus. I was thinking it didn't open until November. My mistake. Run -- don't walk if the scalpers haven't bought up all the tickets to sell at inflated prices to people wanting to see Harry Potter nude.

I'm with mclaurie on Equus.

And I can't wait to see "A Man for All Seasons" starring Frank Langella. It is very tough to get tickets, but I personally would sit anywhere to see this play. The movie was great btw.

NP I am seeing "Equus" because I loved the original production and hoping that this comes close. Time will tell. Despite what you say, that is the only reason I got tickets!

And I forgot "Dividing the Estate" with Elizabeth Ashley and a revival of Mamet's "Speed the Plow."

Why not see a few plays?

Hey, Centralparkgirl, did I say otherwise? LOL. Honestly, I saw a regional theatre production of Equus this past year. I'd love to see this production, but it is not to be.

Okay NP. After I see the production, I'll let you know what I think of his bod...I mean his performance.

Thank you for all your advice. I bought already tickets for Equus and also South Pacific( I want to see the brazilian singer). I am thinking now about 39 steps( they have a discount coupon ) and Dividing the State.

My sister and I have tickets to The 39 Steps on September 5th. I'll try to update this thread with my "review" when I get back.

I hated 39 Steps. Thought is was a real waste of time. There are too many better options.

The other side of the coin: We thoroughly enjoyed The 39 Steps. No, it not the greatest show you'll ever see, but it's a lot of fun....and very, very cleverly done.

I just rewied the movie "39 STEPS" and I think I will give it a try .Tickets are now half price.
Howard and MCLaurie, any other plays that you would recomend?As you can see theaters are one of our main choices while in NY.My husband loves classical music and we also try to go to some concerts.

I'd recommend A Man for All Seasons. It's a magnificent play and Frank Langella is a magnificent actor!
I'm not a fan of All My Sons, so I wouldn't recommend it, though the cast is impressive on paper.
