AuntieMaria has defected for a week on Maui!! Bring this to the top next week for her great advice.

For a salad break, Duke's has a decent and probably the best salad bar. At least they used to at dinner time.

Don't miss having some shave ice at Jojo's. And, be sure to stop at Aunty Lilikoi's(across from the Shrimp Station) for some great mustards and jellies and other yummies.

Just 2 haircuts and 60 days from having to suffer thru Kauai!!!!!

Eating in Kauai . . . my favorite subject! We go every year - my all time favorite restuarant (for food not ambiance) is gone now - Pacific Cafe in Kapaa . . . But you don't want to know where you can't go . . . I hear that the beautiful, romantic, restful Beach House in Poipu has their chef (& same owner?) I absolutely concur - go there for your special splurge meal and try for that window at sunset table. I also agree with the moderately price, Duke's Barefoot Bar at the Marriott in Kalapaki - it's worth going JUST for the hula pie, but try the fish tacos as well. A new discovery last visit in Kalapaki is a fabulous little sushi place tucked into the Anchor Cove shopping center right next to the Mariott - Sushi Bushido - I can't say enough about it! Great sushi, live entertainment some nights - pretty cheap too. I have been craving it since we left. Another note on Hamura's Saimin Stand - go early or call and reserve some of their mauna pua (spiced pork buns) they are to die for and go fast! Hamura's is really cheap (don't expect a cool, clean lunch there) but soooo worth it. And last - I don't eat beef, but my family adores Bubba's burgers. If they have the special Mahi Mahi sandwich with papaya salsa available - try that too. Have a great time! I'm jealous.

I'm fluctuating just thinking about it.

Melissa, where is Mama Lucy's? You must tell.

Kat, thanks for the heads up on the sushi place!

My friend's husband devoured the first dessert so I don't know what it was. We cut up the fancy manju and the custardy napolean into dainty pieces so we could each taste it. Fluctuating husband!!!

For a great snack Banana Joe's Fruitstand selling locally produced tropical fruit, produce and refreshments. We always stop there once or twice especially if we are going to the lighthouse.

Everytime I have a shave ice from Wishing Well??? is that the name of the place in Hanalei? Well tasting it's juicy goodness just makes me want to dance to the minuet.

We always have to stop at Banana Joe's for a frozen pineapple/banana smoothie. We also like Duke's (great fresh fish, salad, and Hula pie), Scotty's (great ribs), and Hukilau (sp?). And for breakfast, I think it's called the Country Kitchen in Kapaa.

It sounds like I am in the minority, but I found Duke's to be very average, at best. We had to wait forever for a table. We were told it would be 1/2 hour wait and it turned out to be over an hour. Once seated, it took a very long time for our server to come over and take our drink order. I don't recall if we stayed for dessert, but the entrees lacked any kind of originality and the quality was so-so.

On the high end, on top of the Beach House, we enjoyed Roy's. The only two downsides are that it is busy and it is in a shopping plaza.

We also ate at a Thai restaurant in Kapaa. I don't remember the name, but it was not very good. It was on the road that connects Lihue and Princeville, not far from where A Pacific Cafe was.

Now, this one is not going to make you want to dance to the minuet like sistahs's Wishing Well recommendation, but we always have a couple of meals at the Lihue BBQ Inn, tons of locals here and tasty and reasonably priced food. On the same street as Hamarua's.

And to flucuate just a bit, it may have been mentioned already. The Olympic Cafe in downtown Kapaa is very good.

Kimberly, are you totally confused?

Fish tacos at Tropical Tacos in Hanalei are fluctuawesome! I didn't do a minuet, but the meat loaf at Hukilau Lanai got my toes tapping and my fingers popping.

I cancelled appointments for today, but we got nothing. The mountain place is pretty well snowed/iced in right now. I wish I had gone up there!

Y'all be safe.

Sorry folks, back to Kauai...

Alohaaa...
Just got back from the #ell hole what seems like months ago already.

Duke's still has Taco Tuesdays! Fish tacos for about $3 and same for the beer. We missed it this year but did drop by for their Ceasar salad with fresh ahi. Very good.

Dani's Cafe...Lihue good b'fast lunch
Rob's Goodtme Grille-Sportsbar with good burgers-Lihue
I get slammed for this but Oki Diner-Lihue. Moved to a new (cleaner) spot in Rice St by the post office.
BIG DITTO for Oly Cafe.

Pizzetta's in Kapaa was really good and has great Sangria.
Lighthouse Cafe in Kileuea has good fish tacos and a good Ceasar Fish salad.
Good french fries too.

Eggbert's for b'fast in Kapaa.
Al and Don's-little hole in the wall where you can eat and are right on the beach. Chef Bobby makes killah' chili flakes too.

Waiema Canyon Brew Co on the Westside still makes a good plate of nui nachos (kalua pork instead of beef).

Grind's Cafe is becoming one of my faves. Sit on the porch if you can.
Grab some cookies for the road.

We heard good reviews about the Kalaheo Cafe right across from "The Brick".
Some of our Kapaa local friends actually will drive "all the way over to" Kalaheo to eat there.

Keep forgetting the name of the deli/bakery at Kukui Grove Shopping Ctr but they do make a good sammy.

Nearby is a fairly new Italian Deli/pizza place, next to Borders.

They make good sandwiches but for one of the first times in my life I didn't throw a tip in the tip jar after I ordered our sandwiches at the counter.
The young gal there was probably one of the rudest people. OK...you have piercings, a tatoo and you have teenage angst...get over yourself. Seen it all, honey...not impressed.

Alohaa lvk...
The only chains I "visited" were Macy's because I ran out of foo foo spray and Pizza Hut.
We ordered 2-3 pizzas for the Sand Bar Family because nobody wanted to walk (or was able to) over to the CoCoMktplace and Aloha Pizza.

We missed Puka Dogs this trip...darnnit!
And Joe's on the Green at the Kiahuna Golf Course.
Other than that, Maui mo bettah'.
