best places for rafting,biking etc.

between, Zion, Bryce, torrey(Capitol reef), & Moab- where are the best places to do--rafting/tubing,biking, hiking, horsebackriding, 4x4, ATV's? which one in which place for the best experience.

Hi F,

No contest, Moab is the best for 4x4 and biking. But you had better be an expert at both for the hardest trails.

Horseback riding around the Bryce area is quite nice. Besides riding down into the canyon itself (which you must book through the park service), Ruby's wranglers have several good rides outside the park to other areas. Skip it at Zion - boring. Another poster is doing a horseback trip of several days with a company out of Torrey. Search here for more info.

I'm against ATV's so can't say on that one, but I know it's a major sport in Torrey.

Rafting on the Colorado River in Moab is fun and there are many companies to take you. If you want whitewater, you might like to do Westwater Canyon or even Cataract (the biggie). Again many companies in Moab do Cataract trips.

Have fun!

Thanks so much for the info-Dayle

I agree with Dayle on the 4x4, biking, & rafting.

For tubing, that would be the Virgin River in Springdale, Utah near Zion. They have banned tubing in the park.

For hiking, they are ALL great!

Question for experienced rafters: Several dad and daughters are taking a multi-day guided raft trip in the Grand Canyon in June. What is the best thing for us to wear on the raft, assuming we'll often be doused with cold river water?

Dayle Apr 8th, 2006 05:30 PM

Hi MRand,

Take:

wide brim hat WITH STRAP!
super sunglasses with chums (straps)
sunscreen, bug repellant
quick drying shirts and shorts
long sleeved shirts (TOO much sun)
dive booties (your feet will be in COLD water all day)
water sandals (Tevas or other)
water-proof camera (with strap)

Do you notice a theme here? You will loose anything that isn't attached to your body. You're in for a wild ride and a spectacular, awesome time. You will never forget it.

Who are you going with?
