Best place to camp, swim near Baltimore and DC

I want to take my family to Baltimore and DC
and want to do some camping and swimming nearby. All suggestions are welcome.

What kind of swimming? Yes that sounds strange, but you could head toward the Atlantic Coast, and there I would recommend camping on Chincoteague island so you can swim off of Assateague (About a 3 1/2 hour drive from DC). Or it you want another setting altogether, you could head to Catoctin State Park (about an hour north of DC - take Rt 270 to 70 and take Rt 15. Cunningham Falls is a lot of fun and there is a great little lake for swimming.

Another fun option is Harpers' Ferry. The river there has great places to "float" and ride some mild rapids in innertubes. It is also a nifty little touristy historic stop.

Greenbelt National Park outside DC has lovely campsites and is very convenient to DC's attractions. It is also about 45-60 minutes from Baltimore. No swimming, though.

Drive west to Shenandoah Nat'l park. You may need to call/research about camping reservations.
