I cannot believe that nobody has mentioned Boulder, CO. Yes, it snows there, but probably the most liberal place in the nation. They'll be happy to take your "well-off" money for an expensive home as well.

You'll find a high level of Government services and associated taxes, excessive property regulations, and lots of people who spend tons of money making sure they look like they are just scraping by and living a carefree life.

My Palo Alto reference was only to high cost of housing... the SUV comment was only for this area. ( SLO) Sorry if I wasn't clear... I was laughing over the craziness of this thread... like there is ANYWHERE you can get away from "acts of God" (earthquakes) or a certain vehicle! Silly!
