Best place for seafood in Monterey
Which place would you guys recommend for the best place for seafood in Monterey? There are 4 of us, including 2 teenagers...Nothing too fancy, but something still nice.
Thanks! |
Fish Wives Market restaurant. Oops. I think it is actually in Pacific Grove....hmmm. The only place I can think of is Bubba Gumps and I don't think that will be the "best". Have fun though
|
Fish Wives is one of my favorites, but I recently found Monterey Fish House through this board and it is fantastic.

When my wife and I went to Monterey a few years back, we tried a place called The Sardine Factory. To this day, we still consider it to be among the best restaurants we've experienced. We had a fabulous set dinner (I think 5 courses) for $30 per person.
Have fun... |
MONTEREY FISH HOUSE! This is a casual but nice, locals' place with great fresh fish in abundance. The teens will feel very comfortable. Do not be put off by its
location next door to an autobody repair shop. It's nice inside and the food worth it. I had a scallop scampi pasta dish last time I was there-sublime. Make reservations. |
We like Domenico's, right on the wharf. I like their Monterey sand dabs! We have also had good meals at Cafe Fina also on the wharf.
The best fish and chips are at Schooner's, on the Plaza in Monterey. dine outside and take in the gorgeous scenery. Enjoy Monterey! ***kim*** |

Monterey Fish House and Fishwife--not paying for view and/or tourist location.
|
Thanks for the suggestions.
|
My two cents are Monterey's Fish House--excellent indeed, despite really weird location; and Sea Harvest, which is a small local chain with locations in Monterey (on Lighthouse a couple of blocks up from Cannery Row), and in Carmel Highlands Center and perhaps elsewhere as well. I like it because you can choose your fish from the case, it's super casual, and super fresh. I've never cared for the Fishwife, but I seem to be in the minority.

When the kids or life is driving us nuts, my hubby and I look at each other, sigh and wish we were in the observatory room at the Sardine Factory sharing a "Chocolate Bag" desert.... Do they still make them? A chocolate little lunch sack filled with chocolate mousse and drizzled with raspberry sauce and a sprig of mint? MMMMMMMM....
|
I haven't been to the Sardine Factory in many years, but the White House in PG makes a chocolate sac, but it is a rich block of chocolate filled with a homemade milkshake with two straws. Really yummy!! ***kim***

Oh, my fave for chocolate in Monterey has to be Ghirardelli, right on Cannery Row. Despite their being a fast-expanding chain, their choc is just yummy--the shakes are to die for, and just might kill you, at that!

elaine,
Another vote here for the Sardine Factory. You may want to buy three dinners and share. Dessert is up to you! |
