Just a quick bit of information - if you choose Orlando, Florida be advised that in nearby Daytona Beach the Nascar race will be there that weekend. Lots to do in Florida, but it may be more comfortable further North. no guarantees - pick your location and have fun!!!

Thanks again. We've just had a friend who lived in both Philadelphia and Washington tell us we should spend 4th of July in Washington, not Philadelphia. We'll weigh everything up and make our decision. But again, great suggestions from everyone. Thank you.

I just stumbled across your question. I live in Washington, DC and my birthday is the 4th of July as well. I have not missed a 4th in DC since I was born (20 straight years!). I would have to say that Washington has to be the place to be on the 4th of July. There is a parade during the day and the fireworks at night are really spectacular. Sitting on the National Mall in between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial is one of the most fantastic fireworks memories you will ever have. The sight is stunning and the amazing sound is jaw dropping. The sound of the fireworks bounces off the buildings and monuments and seems to hit you more than once and you can feel all of the explosions inside your body. It is truly something that everyone should experience. Yes there are a lot of people, but if you plan it right then you won't have an issue. We drive every year and don't have that hard of a time. Definitely think hard about spending the 4th in DC!

I would not argue with 4th of July weekend in Washington D.C. which we once enjoyed. Nor I suppose Philadelphia. But I would plug Boston. Already mentioned is the Pops concert with fireworks on the Charles River. But so far not mentioned is the weekend eventful Boston Harborfest which has events and tours with Colonials in costume. For example, last year's musical performers Rum & Revolution at Faneuil Hall and more for families. You do know that this is where the agitation began for Independence. www.bostonharborfest.com

if money is not an issue,i think the NYC fireworks seen from the deck of one of the Spirit Cruise ships is incredible--we went last year, it leaves dock at 6, you have a sitdown very nice 4 course dinner, unlimited drinks, dancing and they anchor in the middel of the Hudson--you are maybe 100 yards from one of the 5 bardges with the fireworks--tickets are 350 each, and im not sure since its an open bar if anyone under 21 is allowed
