I've been told it's the "Original" in Brooklyn.

I would say Lombardi's in Little Italy. It's the first pizza place in the country. Others would probably say John's, Patsy's, Grimaldi's, Ray's (the original).

Nick's on the Upper East Side and Lombardi's.

Also Grimaldi's.

And Georgio's.

For "designer" pizza, the best can be found at Mario Batali's Otto.

depends upon how you like your pizza, we have all kinds, regular, brick oven, deep dish, and middle eastern too.

Totono's of Brooklyn is now in Manhattan, so that's a score.

Patsy's is now almost everywhere, and still can be great.

I have not heard a New Yorker talk about Ray's pizza in 20 years. I am curious..where is the "original" Ray's?

By the slice, Joe's on Carmine St (near 6th av and Bleecker). For a pie, Josn's or Grimaldi's. For something a bit more unique than the 'traditional' pizza, the very thin, crispy crust grilled pizza with very fresh toppings, at Gonzo's is to die for.

Lombardi's hands down. I love the fresh clam pizza. A memory that will last forever.

There are "original" Ray's all over the city, but I'd also like to know where the original "original" originated.

Brick oven pizza is usually not my favorite, but I was pleasantly surprised by Nick's Pizza in Forest Hills (Queens). I actually liked it more than Grimaldi's. Nice atmosphere too!

Head over the Brooklyn Bridge to the Heights for Grimaldi's! Then walk to the Promenade for a stroll and the best view of Manhattan.

No no... the Original Rays... Yes, its NY style pizza, but it's not that great... Unless you like it really greasy - it folds up nicely, which I guess is an indication of a good NY pizza.

John's Pizzeria is the best. Grimaldi's is also good, but harder to get to.

Closest to Manhattan? Grimaldi's under the Bklyn bridge. Expect a wait at dinner time.
If you're feeling adventurous, hop on the N train, take it to 86th Street in Brooklyn and have the best sicilian slice in NY - L&B Spumoni Gardens. You won't meet a Brooklynite who doesn't know L&B.

John's Pizza, IMHO. I went there with my daughter years ago, and when I went back last year with my husband, daughter and son, I took them there. They were skeptical, and a 30-minute wait when we were hungry made my husband increasingly impatient about being there. As soon as he took the first bite of the pizza, however, he called the waiter back and said, "Put in an order for another one of these!"

My hubby made us go on the train to the village just to get one more slice of Joes Pizza. He tried many recommended here and thought they had the best. But of course we are from out West what do we know?

For the brick/coal oven type of pizza, I love Patsy's. It's consistently good. For a regular good old greasy slice, I love Ben's in Soho... on Thompson and Spring. It is AWESOME. I want a slice now!
