North Beach pizza is probably the most well known. "best", especially pizza, is so subjective.

Coming from NY/NJ area, I've had pizza a couple of times in SF. I had no problems with the sauce & toppings, but there was something about the crust that didn't sit right.

I had a conversation with a bagel maker, and he told me that you just can't duplicate the NY/NJ bagels down South (FL or LA). He attributes both to the water. I'm not sure, but he may have a point.

Thanks for taking care of that trip. Mike-- A16 makes Napoli-style wood fired pizzas-thin crisp crust with a few choice ingredients, not lots of sauce and cheese.

This is A-16. We've been 2-3x.
Good pie and good food.
A bit loud but worth it. Try and get a seat at the Chefs Counter.

We loved Amici's. I heard it moved to a new location on Lombard from it's old Union St location?

NoBeach Pizza especially at Pier 39 is also good. Plus at Pier 39 you get a nice view.

The much-lauded Delfina's on 18th Street opened a pizzeria recently. It's right next door to the main restaurant. I love their pizza, others don't. If you like your pizzas abundantly sauced and weighted with cheese, Delfina's is probably not your style - has more in common with A16's choices.

Kal, yeah, Amici had moved. It was the next door to my root canal dentist. Drats, we could've had a great GTG there

Budman,
I am originally from Brooklyn, so I should know good pizza. I have heard S.F. has some good N. Y. style pizza.

Oops, Mike, none of the ones I mentioned above are NY-style pizza. In fact, my brother-in-law from NYC doesn't like any of them.

I'm just comparing things to Pete & Elda's -- the best thin crust I've ever had. http://www.peteandeldas.com/
