I'm from New Jersey, so with the New York pizzerias around every corner, I'm going to have to disagree! Then again, I'll eat any state's pizza. Except maybe Pennsylvania...hehe.

Ahhh, you finally make me reply to this!! Pennsylvania you say - did you know that there's a little town in Pennsylvania that has the WORLD's best pizza? The little town is called Old Forge and it's located halfways between Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. The population of said town is about 98.4 percent Italian and they make a pizza that's about 1/4 inch thick on a rectangular pan (like a cookie sheet) and it makes 8 delicious slices. There's a combination of cheeses used on this pizza that combined with the slightly thicker crust makes for the crunchiest bite.

Most every restaurant in lde Forge has their own variations but you can try Revello, Arcaro & Genells, Ghigarellis, Agostinis, and I forget more than I remember of the names. The lines outside the door on a Friday or Saturday evening are almost a block long.

This is wonderful pizza!

The worst pizza I had WAS in Boston. ugh. No one knows how to make it here!
They put cheddar cheese on pizza on the South Shore!! Yuk! NO wonder I dropped 20 lbs here LOL.

The best pizza is whatever you like. I had a roommate from new jersey several years back and we hashed out that damn nyc/chicago pizza argument ad nauseum. That being said, the worst pizza I ever had was in New Hampshire, followed by a miserable pizza I had in Brighton (England). I've not had much pizza in Boston, but I did have a lovely white clam pizza there once.

I have been eating Santarpios, Reginas and UpperCrust for many years, and love them all. They are all wonderful and right up there, but none of them are our favorite pizza in the world! Sorry

I was watching a show about pizza on TV (can't remember which show) and they were doing a story about Lombardi's in NYC. I just about jumped through the screen when they showed their pizza. I have never been there but it looked wonderful. I live in a pizza wasteland (Orlando) and cannot wait to try this pizza. Has anyone had pizza from Lombardi's and is it as good as it looks. To me the perfect pizza is just cheese made from the best ingredients and this one looked like the perfect pizza. It had real homemade fresh mozzerella, fresh tomato sauce, olive oil, and fresh grated parmegiana reggiano. It was cooked in a very hot coal oven and came out slightly burnt (mmmmmmmmmmmm). To me this looked like the perfect pizza.

and yes, Buffalo is the key, but not Buffalo NY. Buffalo Mozzarella is the key to to the great Neopolitan Pizza. Then again, the San Marzano tomato and the Basil have a lot to do with it as well.

NeoPatrick, I also have to give props to the So of France. The "Pizza St Jean du Cap Ferrat", with the raw egg cracked on top of it as its presented at the table is to die for!

Canadians must think so - as evidenced by all the "Boston Pizza" chains around here. I laughed. I've never thought of Boston as a pizza destination.

You really shouldn't laugh at Boston - it is condesending. Have you eaten at Reginas, Santarpios, Upper Crust? Boston has fantastic pizza, some of the best that can be found.

I just happened to find the true hidden gems of pizza in other states and sorry, but, I'm not talking!

I'm not laughing at Boston. I laughed at "Boston Pizza". Just never thought of Boston as a pizza destination. NY Pizza maybe. Chicago pizza. But, "Boston Pizza" chosen as the name of a chain?

When I saw the first Boston Pizza store outside Toronto I was a bit puzzled. When I saw the 6th within an hour or so, I laughed. I'm not laughing at Boston at all. And, if I'm in the mood for pizza in Boston, I've got some great suggestions. (But, rarely spend a lot of time in Boston. Either headed for the Cape or up to Maine for seafood. :-) )

Actually "Boston Pizza" was started in Edmonton by a Greek immigrant in the 1960's...may not be the best in the world but where else could you find a perogy pizza?!

Hey - I grea up on the South Shore and I've never seen pizza with cheddar cheese. That's just gross.

The one of the best pizzas in the Boston area comes from Lynwood's in Randolph. Very different from Santarpios or Regina's - crispy thin crust but its regularly cited in the top 5 by Phantom Gourmet and others.

And Buffalo has decent pizza but not the best in the world

gmoney - I've eaten at Lombardi's three times and each time I've had a pretty tasty pie. I've not eaten loads of pizza in nyc, so I'm no expert (however, I do have strong opinions on pizza in Chicago), but if you are visiting nyc, I would recommend it, pretty nice stuff. I like the 'white pizza' personally. I'm sure there is better pizza in new york, and I'm sure we'll be hearing about it shortly, but I did like my experience in Lombardi's.

Whoa, where do some of you eat pizza? There is no place that I know that puts chedder cheese!
Anyway, this is stupid thread bcaus everyones taste differ in food, whose mother makes the best pasta sauce? each thinks their mom's the best. Look at the Europe board, someon says they loved a certain restaurant and another ruidely, will say they thought it awful.
There are so many pizzza places in Boston owned by Italians and Greeks and they are all different and we do not have a chain called Boston Pizza.

Well, if anyone is ever looking for pizza in the greater Detroit area, you gotta go Loui's. It's not quite deep dish, just a thick enough crust to balance out the cubes of mozzarella on top. If they franchised it, it might be enough to make up for Detroit's other pizza sins (Little Ceasar's and Domino's).

Born and raised a Chicago girl, I have to say it lies in Chicago. Gino's East, and Lou Malnatti's and a bunch of smaller mom-n-pop places are what I pine for when I am not home.

However, it really depends on what you are looking for. If you want a deep dish, Chicago is it. If you want big, soft, foldable pieces, Chicago is not going to do it: better head to NYC. A few years ago, Food Network did a pizza challenge, and the chef from California won, but then again, I think it was biased because the time constraints did not allow the chef from Chicago to make a real deep dish (not enough time to cook one that thick). Chicago and, in my experience, NYC, are not where you go for "weird" things on your pizza. You can find anything on pizza in CA, but not here.

On the flip side: worst pizza is in NC and the Upper Peninsula in MI. I'd rather eat cardboard!
