1. Stromboli's - University Place b/w 12 and 13th Streets. Serving the best pizza for around 40 years.

2. Rays - 6th Avenue and 11th Street. Great cheese.

This topic has been beaten to death in numerous threads. If you really want to know peoples' opinions, please do a text search. (Grimaldi's in Brooklyn always gets the most votes.)

TEXT SEARCH.

Darvy you are a nasty nasty person. Your posts are all so incredibly useles.. yet you call someone an "idiot" for posting a discussion on pizza. I'll bet you have no friends.

In my opinion, the best pizzeria is "Ancona" on Rockaway Ave. in Valley Stream, Long Island. People travel from all over to eat their great pizza.
Bon appetit.

Isn't Johns on Houston with the brick oven supposed to be very good?

I like the thin crust pizzas that they serve in a small place on Prince St called Il Corallo.

Hi Mitch

I've just got back from spending 4 days in NYC last week. Before I went, I did a search on Fodors, and yes there has been quite a lot of previous discussions on the subject (although I still think it was unnecessary for Darvy to be so rude about it - kinda just made me think that he's a bit of an idiot himself...). I took the overwhelming advice and headed for Grimaldi's, under Brooklyn Bridge. Loved it! Quaint restaurant (of the red checked cloth variety), friendly waiters, cheerful atmosphere - and super delicious pizzas!! Great choice of toppings, excellent flavour, generous portions. Word of advice though - their pizzas are thin based, so if you're a thick based fan, you might not enjoy it...

Patsy Grimaldi's is the BEST, but John's on Bleecker is great too, and Patsy's (a different Patsy) on University is good too - all thin crust brick oven pizza.

I just want to say that I think it was late last August that I walked all the way across the Brooklyn Bridge to go to Patsy Grimaldi's and it was closed for two weeks for vacation. I may be mistaken though - maybe it was September?

Try Angelo's, one of the best around, fresh mozzarella, tasty sauce, and big basil leaves throughout. Convenient locations, on 57th between 6th & 7th, and a just opened branch at 55th Street and 2nd Avenue. The pasta is good too. The 2nd Avenue location has a very nice outdoor cafe.
