Best pizza by the slice?
Hi,
I am wondering where the best pizza by the slice is served. I know about Grimaldi's, Lombardis and John's. But these places only sell whole pies. I'm just looking for a quick bite. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |
You realize you've posted this question to the "United States" forum right? If you posted from a particular city/state, the rest of us have no idea where in the US you are talking about. New York?
Here in Portland, OR, it's not easy to find good pizza. I prefer NY Style myself. There are a few good ones: Hot Lips, Vincenti's, and Tribute's come to mind. In Eugene, I like a place called Sy's just off the U of O campus. Andrew |
Tressider has pizza by the slice, fairly decent, but not the best by far, and it is expensive. $3.25 a slice. Whole Foods in Redwood City sells by the slice, but the stuff is a mess, all dried out on top and soggy on the bottom.
The pizza at the CoHo sucks and there's only a Pizza Hut minibranch at the Silo. I don't remember any pizza at the Price Center. |
The pizza at Alfred Bakery & Pizza on Altamont Ave is great. They always have several varieties and have been running a special of 2 slices + a soda for $2.95
I've always liked Celibri's (sp?) on Packer Ave too. |
You didn't give a location. Country-wide, IMO, it's Vinnie Van Go-Go's in Savannah, GA, and I'm from Boston where there is great pizza!
|
The best slice I've had in some time was at a small store front place on 9th Avenue and 53rd (maybe 52nd)? Don't know the name but one of the few pizza spots still run by an old Italian guy.

She wants to know about pizza in NYC.

What city has 2 slices + soda for $2.95?
In Durham, NC, my favorite pizza place charges $5.66 (after tax) for that. But the slices are from an 18" pizza. |
NY Pizza in Santa Rosa in Sonoma.
The owner is a transplant from Brooklyn, NY and makes arguably the best NY-style pizza in Sonoma. Slices are available. |
IMO, the Upper East Side has the best pizza-by-the slice. Anna Maria on 87th & 1st is my absolute favorite, and Mimma's on 2nd Ave around 84th or 85th comes in 2nd.

In NYC the best slice that I know of is at Joe's Pizza (it even gets a 24 for food in zagats) on Carmine St between Bleecker and 6th AV.

HI,
I thought I did specifically put this in the NY category. I don't know what I did wrong. OOOPS! |
just an FYI ronijeni, you may well have specified New York when you posted this. But that's really more of a search feature, so a person can find all the postings about New York. There's only one US forum, and most of us look at the whole thing. So if you don't put the location in the message we can't tell -- usually nice to have it in the header.
sure would be nice if Fodor's would do this automatically, but they don't. |
Joe's is a good slice. I also like Maffei's on 22nd Street & 6th Ave - NE corner.
There are SO many places for a good slice of pizza in NY. The best, who knows? Probably someplace up in the Bronx or in Nrooklyn that's been there for 50 years... |
