Best Phoenix resort for Mom BIG Trip?

Hi all...

well, I love viewing the threads here (used to do it years ago on AOL and got the BEST results).

I have this dilemma- I have only a few days in the Phoenix area...and we're leaving this Thursday 3/29!!

Yeah, yeah, I know, but it's a special thing to take my Mom-- she's NEVER been to Arizona and we're trying to make it something special.
Desert...mountains.

Not much on the hiking and such.

Loved the recommends of the 4 Seasons and Phoencian...but they are just a little too expensive.

Any other ideas that truly say Phoenix/Scottsdale, desert/mountains?

Any ideas MOST welcome.

Thanks alot!!

Regards,

Ron

Check into
Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliff Resorts
Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort

A bit pricer -
JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa

Great ideas...they both had looked good..and the Tapatio Cliff resorts seemed to be in a good location...
one question...too many kids at that one? that seemed to be the implication of some of then notes I saw. But the other reviews that talked about the great views seemed to be what sold me...

Love all the 4-5 star resorts but why spend $400-600 a night..friends love the Radisson Fort McDowell Resort/Casino..
$157 a night on Expedia..
4 star and great dining, beautiful rooms and its a couple of years old..spend the savings doing other cool things for Mom!

Well, tripadvisor ranks it #2 for families - but also #2 for romance.

One great thing about the big resorts - the kids hang out at the big pools with bells and whistles, and there are "quiet" pool options for adults. Although, if you are going with your mom, you probably aren't interested in romance or pools :-)

Be sure to take a day trip up to Sedona.

Consider a visit to Talesin West. I absolutely adore it and go every time I'm in the Scottsdale area. I love the Friday night tours when they offer them.

I just got the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs for $75 on priceline. By bidding for a Phoenix North Resort you would get either of the Pointe Hiltons (Tapatio or Squaw) or the Marriott. Can't go wrong with any of these! biddingfortravel dot com can help you see what rooms are going for.

Then you can save your money for shopping!

Before you bid on Priceline, know they can only guarantee a room for 2 - but NOT the specifics of the room. If you and mom are getting two rooms - no problem. If you and mom are sharing a room, you can't know for sure if the room will have 2 beds. You can request 2 beds, but you may end up with a king.

No matter what you do, be sure to join the hotel's frequent stay program if you don't already belong. You may get a free room upgrade or similar.

You will still be in the high price time zone, but try Camelback Inn or AZ. Biltmore. They most represent Arizona in atmosphere, especially Camelback Inn....or, you might try Hermosa Inn, also very much the flavor of Arizona....you never know, they just might come up with a decent price.

Another vote for the Camelback Inn. THe grounds are amazing and the rooms are gorgeous! We went this Christmas and we will be going back next Christmas.
One drawback is they are doing renovations right now. But, I think it is only on certain portions.

Thanks guys!! All great suggestions...

we finally went with Tapatio cliffs... loved the looks of some of the other places, just in the end couldn't justify the cost...
can't wait for the nice warm Arizona sun...mmmmm...
thanks again...

Hi Ron...I live within less than two miles of Pointe Tapatio(in an area called Moon Valley) and would be happy to take you and your mom on a little tour of Phoenix...I am a native of 68 years and very often give little driving tours around older areas of Phoenix, particularly the different residential areas.

Ron, I actually just came home from Tapatio Cliffs yesterday. We've stayed there 5 times and absolutely love it. There are plenty of pools around for quiet, without kids since most of them do swim at The Falls (with the waterslides). You'll love it. Just beware that some of the rooms are high in the cliffs, but if you dial 15 on your phone, they are happy to come up and get you in a van and bring you down to the lobby. We stayed up a little farther this time, than normal, but had no problem walking down. The breakfast at the golfcourse is also great. See if you can get Bounceback coupons when you check in so that you can get the buffet in the morning. It's a great place to eat and very convienant. I'm sure you'll love it.

My aunt and uncle that we went to visit live in Moon Valley!!

Molly...as many times as we've been over to Tapatio Cliffs, I've never seen the golf course restaurant....is it by the pro shop?k

To Poster...Kerri...

**Camelback Inn*** Yes, they are going to change the whole theme of the Camelback, much to my dismay. Will begin catering to a much younger crowd, everything changes with time.
So sorry to see major changes w/this hotel. :-(
