Best of west trip

I am planning a trip next april, i have six full days to see the following. Grand canyon, monument valley ,bryce canyon and zion national park. I was thinking of skipping Monument valley, to enjoy the rest more. any advice would be appreciated.

Do the six days include the days flying in and flying out or will you be driving?

I would concentrate on Zion, Bryce and GC. The extra time driving out of the way to see MV just isn't worth it on a short trip. Where are you flying into?

I will have the full six days and be staying in las vegas. I had my heart set on seeing monument valley but is this to much? I will be flying from northern ireland to vegas( McCarran airport). iintend to stay at GC for a full day.

If you really have your heart set on Monument Valley, I think it would be worth the 165 extra miles! With 6 days you could:

Day 1 drive Las Vegas to Grand Canyon
Day 2 Grand Canyon
Day 3 Drive to Monument Valley stopping at the scenic overlooks as you exit the Grand Canyon. Spend night at Gouldings, Kayenta or Mexican Hat.
Day 4 Drive Bryce see canyon. Trails down into Bryce in April are usually closed due to snow so one night should be plenty.
Day 5 Spend some time in Bryce before driving to Zion
Day 6 Spend most of the day in Zion and then drive the 3 hours to Las Vegas.

What part of L.A. are you staying in (it's vast) and what are your interests? Museums? Beaches? Amusement Parks? Hiking? Will you be flying home from Los Angeles?

Ulsterscot Mar 31st, 2006 04:18 PM

I would like to see amusement parks, santa monica, hollywood sign, beverly hills and the stars homes, and maybe a backlot tour at one of the studios. Those sort of ideas. I was thinking of staying in anaheim close to disney. What's your advice on this? thanks

Is this all the same trip?

If so, can you not steal a couple of nights from the LA segment of your trip and add them to the Arizona/Utah bit to give you more time there.

I have only been to LA once. I think it was for 3 nights but I was pretty glad to leave. I wasn't concerned about the safety aspect since most areas a tourist will be should be perfectly safe. It just wasn't my kind of city that's all.

Ulsterscot Apr 2nd, 2006 05:50 AM

Please tell me why it was not your city, as i think i would agree. From what i have heard, its not that great an experience, and yes i would consider adding days to the arizona part of the trip.Let me know. thanks
