Best NYC Hotel near 53rd and 6th avenue?

Hi, I am going to NYC in May. The conference I am going to is at the Sheraton (I know there are two of them) at 53rd and 6th avenue. I would prefer to stay close by, but not at the conference hotel, and may bring 2 pre-teen sons. Where might i find the best rooms for the price? I saw a good price at the Crowne Plaza Times Square through Hotel Express website ($290 for a room on the concierge floor). Is the concierge floor nice? is the food they serve worth eating? I can't do priceline bc i need to be sure that i get a room with 2 beds. thanks, karen

There are a ton of hotels in that area near the Sheraton.

The couple that come to mind are Le Parker Meridian and Rihga Royal. They would be the best hotels in the area.

Sorry, best hotels in the area in that price range.

The Warwick at 54 & 6th is a great classic NYC hotel with usually reasonable prices. The Hilton NY is also right there. The Righa Royal is also well located for you and is an all suite hotel. I gather though that since Marriott took it over, it's a bit pricey for what you get. The Crowne Plaza is not as close to the Sheraton as these.

Hi thanks, I have stayed at the Righa, right before it switched over to Marriott ownership. Back then, I got a great rate of $250 and got upgraded to a suite. Now it is 420/night for the nights i am going, which is a bit much for their smallest room/suite that only has one king bed. the sheraton conference rate is 239/night for a regular room, so my company will not pay a lot more. i will check out the warwick rates...thanks, karen

Because the Hilton is so huge you can sometimes get very good rates there - if it's not one of the hotels that are part of your conference - and they don;t have any conference of their own. You will probably do best by calling them direct - rather than the central Hilton #.

Crowne Plaza has been paying a lot of extra attention to furnishings and service in the last year or so, and I have become a regular. Their concierge levels tend to be quite nice, and the AM breakfast / evening reception are usually pretty good. In fact, last week we sat in the evening club chatting and noshing so long we weren't even hungry for dinner!

I think the NY Hilton is the most boring hotel in the world, and there must be places that kids would find more interesting.

Ah, the New York Hilton -- the place to stay, and rates of just over $50 a night -- isn't that outrageous, just for a place to sleep? Beautiful, modern, and quite the place to stay.

Ooops. That was my first time there -- 1968. Is it any better now or still the same? I think probably the latter.

check out the Hotel Elysee, they have lovely suites.
I think it has been voted the best small hotel in NY.
Great bar in the lobby

It's true that the Elysess is charming - much more pleasant than the Hilton - which is merely serviceable. However, the Elysees' regular rooms are tiny - barely big enough for two - never mind three. And the junior suites - a bedroom with a double or queen bed and a living area with a pull-out sofa - is more than $400 for May way more depending on the dates - which sounds like it's more than the OP is interested in paying.

Also there is the Super 8 on 46th and 6th- no too far away and great prices! Right by Times Square!

Thanks, NYtraveler,
I have never stayed in their standard rooms.
I have stayed in their piano suite, and a larger one (also with a piano)I think it is called the Presidential.
Both were very nice, and I thought they were quite reasonable, for NY.
