Best NYC brunch
Some friends and I are going to New York and wondering if anyone could recommend a good brunch spot. Good food and atmosphere.
Thanks! |
A neighborhood and per person price range would be helpful.

and do you want something upscale or casual and relaxed? What is your definition of good atmosphere? Trendy?

It depends on where you are going to be in the city, because most restaurants here do brunch.
Try menupages.com for tons of suggestions. |
I will probably get flamed for this, but I don't agree that menupages is all that helpful.
There are hundreds of restaurants in many locations and I have spent hours (literally) making lists and tracking down locations. But I don't feel comfortable with the list. I still vastly prefer a recomendation from a local on this newsgroup (or others) who I feel like I know (from the past posts etc) at least a little bit, over the anonymous recommendations for the menupages. I usually throw away the top and bottom, but still I wonder if someone has a grudge or just who is giving the rec as so many are anonymous. I have about 15 places that we will try to eat in, but I have to say that they are all given by locals from here and gleaned from trip reports that give some details. Just my 2 cents! |
If I'm looking for a new restaurant, I always look at the number of reviews. If a restaurant has 15+ reviews and still 4.5 stars, then I'm willing to gamble on it.
If I'm looking just for a menu to corroborate a restaurant recommendation, then it doesn't matter. |

We're looking for a nice brunch place. Great food and good atmosphere, but not too stuffy. Thank you!

Park Avenue Cafe (63 St.).

We tried Balthazar, but they didn't have space available. We're going in a couple weeks.

We had a really good time and good food for dinner at Artisanal. They do weekend brunches. You would probably need a reservation. See site and our impressions below:
Artisanal Fromagerie and Bistro 2 Park Avenue (32nd Street), New York, NY 10016 Ph: 212.725.8585 http://www.artisanalbistro.com http://www.seetheglobe.com/modules/w...=6&lid=352 |
eatery is great for casual, plus the food is excellent.
|
Elephant & Castle on Greenwich Ave. used to do a nice brunch. I haven't been there in years, so you might want to look it up.
Friend of a Farmer in Gramercy Park is also good for brunch, but there's usually a line to get in. It's cozy inside. The atmosphere of both these places is pretty casual back. |
