Best moderately priced hotel in Waikiki?

I'm going to Kauai in July and would like to stop in Honolulu for a night or two. I'm looking for opinions on the best moderately priced hotel- we're traveling with two young kids- 3&5. I've been to so many websites and looked in so many guidebooks I'm dizzy! Thanks.

I don't know about the absolute best in the moderate category, but for a stopover I would recommend the Hawaiian Regent. Great Location right across from Waikiki Beach(a section where there is a wall further out so it is more calm). Give them a call and ask for their entertainment rate...shouldn't be more than about 120.00. Many postings on how to get this card and how it can help you save the money on the trip.

Annemarie-
Thanks, I will call the Regent. I do have an entertainment book for my area
(Boston). Can I use that card or do you mean I need to get a Hawaii one? How might I do that if so? Thanks for your help.

Oh yes, you can use any region's book for the hotel discount. You can however get a Hawaii edition if you wish as it has in it discounts to restaurants, etc. and interisland coupon(flight),,,a two for one deal on 2 legs...have you already booked your interisland? Because, if you have not this could come in handy. The 800 number for ordering should be in the book that you have, but if it is not, let me know and I'll look it up. Let me know how you do, Annemarie
Try one of the Outriggers too, wide variety/price range to choose from, and 50% off using the Entertainment book/card (yes, you can use your local book to reserve.) Try a search on here for Hawaii and you'll find lots of specific info about the E card.
