Best Marriott options NYC using Marriott points
 

Hi, we were able to secure Springstreen tickets in late December and will be attending his concert at the Walter Kerr theater. We have a slew of Marriott points and are looking for a recommended Marriott prperty for 3 or 4 nights. We have stayed at the Essex house before and are open to ideas aside from that property. Clean and newer rooms are preferable over proximity to the theater since we will sight see the remaining time all over NYC.

We almost always use Marriott points when we travel and NYC my favorites are:

Fairfield Chelsea - gorgeous Flower District location. Granted, the flowers won't be out in December

NY Marriott East Side - Lexington and 48th-ish

Both very convenient to subway and decent neighborhoods. The location on Lexington has a Elite Lounge with heavy hors d'oeuvres on weeknights.

Look for rooms at either Courtyard or Residence Inn Manhattan/Central Park. The hotels are in a single building on the corner of 54th and Broadway. Some of the rooms on higher floors have excellent views of either Central Park or the Hudson River. It's a newer hotel. The Courtyard section has smaller rooms; the Residence Inn rooms are considerably larger and higher up in the building.

Most of the actual "Marriott" hotels in NYC are older with smaller rooms. Courtyards in Manhattan and Brooklyn are typically nicer and have larger rooms (and usually go for more). Other chains like Fairfield Inn and SpringHill Suites are often newer.

Don't discount the brand new Courtyard in Long Island City New York Manhattan View. It's precisely one stop from Midtown (more like 3 or 4 stops from Times Square) and is close enough to Manhattan that you can take a taxi there without breaking the bank late at night. It's more likely than any other hotel to be available at that time.

I'd recommend you avoid only the Courtyard on East 92nd Street; most of the other Marriott hotels will work for you. It's a particularly inconvenient location, far from subway lines. But if you are looking to be in a more residential area, then it's good. You may also wish to avoid anything in the Financial District/Wall Street area since it's inconvenient for other parts of Manhattan (but can be a fun place to stay since there are a lot of new restaurants down there, not to mention the Westfield mall).
