best luxury hotel in tucson ,ARizona

My husband and I are looking for a deluxe hotel in Tucson, not an all inclusive, preferably with lovely atmosphere and views. Thanks for your help.

We loved JW Marriott's Starr Pass. Beautiful views, nice hotel and restaurants, it is a bit out of town, but we loved that part of it. We went in July[yikes] got a great rate [duh] and made sure we did our outdoor stuff early in the morning.

Check out perfectescapes.com for deals.

Debi is right, Starr Pass is kind of out of the way.

My favorites are Loews Ventana Canyon and Westward Look.

And, although I have never stayed there, Hacienda del Sol gets great reviews for the hotel itself and for the food:

For a different experience, the Arizona Inn is a grand old hotel with beautiful grounds. But there is no view, since it is in town:

I have only been once and loved Canyon Ranch - but it is all inclusive - and believe it or not..was worth every dime!

We go to Canyon Ranch in Tucson once a year for body, mind and soul retreat.
It's pricey..low season during the summer is around $5k per person.
$7-$10k pp for a week.
Totally well worth it.

Westin La Paloma shouldn't be overlooked. I far prefer it to the JW Marriott Star Pass. Everything about it is better; location, views, clientele, proximity to shopping and restaurants, neighborhood, everything. Wouldn't recommend Star Pass over La Paloma or Westward Look. Signed, the local!

I enjoyed both La Paloma and Star Pass. Both are so nice that you must make two trips and visit both. slknova is exactly correct about La Paloma: rooms, pool, views, food and location are superb.

Star Pass is remote, but the view from the patio at night is spectacular. Food is very good. Pool area is nice, but La Paloma's is nicer.

You will not be disappointed with either destination.

If you're looking for something a little more intimate...not the usual large five star variety, Hacienda Del Sol would be your best bet. Personally I like the views from Westward Look and Loews, as well as Hacienda, better than Star Pass.

We stayed at Westin LaPaloma this March, Marriot Starr Pass last 2. Marriot's views are better, in my opinion, a little higher level in decor, ambiance (newer). That said, we liked the Westin as it seemed less stuffy, more personal. There are more restaurant options closer to the Westin.

I found La Paloma to be inferior to Westward Look and Loews Ventana Canyon. At La Paloma, you feel like you are in a huge subdivision. Lots of asphalt, concrete, and parking lots, surrounded, rather closely, with housing.

Starr Pass is not a convenient area. You should look at hotels in the Foothills or the Arizona Inn.Hacienda de Sol is special.
La Paloma has very pretty Spanish Colonial architecture while Loew's Ventana is contemporary.
