Best luau in Oahu??
 

which one is better??<BR>1. Paradise Cove<BR>2. Polynesian Cultural Center<BR>3. Germaine<BR><BR>thanks for the help!!!

Check the archives on this topic and you'll find a lot of opinions. We like the luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center and go often. If you combine the luau with their night show try to pick a night when the World Fire Knife champion performs. Be aware that luaus in general are pricey for what you get.<BR>

The SF Chronicle Travel Section had a review of several recently. Go to sfgate.com and do a search on luau.

I've had many friends, and many of them "experienced" Hawaii visitors want to go to a luau here. I've never had any say they were disappointed with Paradise cove. <BR><BR>I've heard mixed reviews on Germaines.<BR><BR>PCC is very expensive and the food somewhat lacking. Most people (my family included)seem happiest when they drive themselves, visit the villages, perhaps the show, then go eat elsewhere when they've had enough.<BR>the best luaus are of course the local ones, which are usually fundraisers at a church or school. Check out the weekly events in the sunday paper...you will get excellent, food and fun entertainment for a fraction of the cost. Of course no MC is going to call you up on stage for a quick hula, but it will be "the real thing".

Local luaus are great, but is that what tourists really want? Or do they want the hollywood version? Do they want poi, opihi, poke, raw crab and beer or do they want ham, teri chicken and mashed potatoes and mai-tais? Do they want to see an muumuu-clad older auntie-type doing the hula to authentic hawaiian music or do they want to see a young girl in a grass skirt dancing to tiny bubbles and the hawaiian wedding song?

It si just another option, as I think many, but not all, tourists DO want to experience the real thing. And, you aren't going to see any younger hula dancers than the little ones from the Sunday school class with their kumu kneeling in front doing the motions to remind the girls!

I tried Paradise Cove and hated it. Ugh! The beach and sunset is nice but the drive is through an industrial park. No sights along the way. Fellow diners were way inebriated. Food was just O.K. I've had better experiences at some of the other Oahu luaus.

hkp- so which one did you like? Germaines? I'll be there in July. Do you need to make advance reservations for luaus at that time of year?
