Best lodging in or near San Diego with a pre school aged child

Hi there,

Can anyone recommend the best lodging in or near San Diego. Somewhere on the beach preferrably. We like to stay in a nice or more upscale setting - CLEAN is our main priority.

Can anyone recommend a place for us?

We are considering
Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado Island
Pacif Terrace in La Jolla

We would like a nice pool, although I haven't seen any resorts on the coast that have a nice tropical looking pool.

Can anyone suggest anything else?

We would also possibly be opened to LA area as well.

I would highly recommend getting a beachfront condo. You get a kitchen, and you can relax after your child goes to bed in the living room or your own room. We always get one from Most of their rentals are located in Solana Beach, which is one town north from Del Mar. The Del Mar beach is great for young children, and the beach down the cliff at Solana Beach is good for seashells and regular play.

The La Jolla Shores Hotel is popular with families. It's right on the beach at the Shores in la Jolla.

The Pacific Terrace hotel isn't in La Jolla, it's in Pacific Beach. Not a great area for pre-schoolers, IMO.

The Hotel Del is also popular with families.

San Diego doesn't have many hotels on the beach and none that I can think of that have what I would consider a tropical pool area. That may be because San Diego isn't a tropical destination, of course.

Here's a picture of Hotel Del's pool and great beach behind it...

Great place for families if it's in your budget

We were in San Diego last year and stayed at the Homewood Suites Del Mar-it has a living room, bedroom and kitchen.
There is very nice pool area and they have breakfast everyday and drinks and a lite meal Monday-Thursday nights. The food was very good-there were a lot of families with children when we were there. This hotel is near the Torrey Pines Beach.

There is also a Homewood Suites near the airport.

Go to Tripadvisor and read the reviews.

Totally agree with Barbara..
LJ Shores hotel is oceanfront..its not super resort fancy but it a 3.5-4* hotel and it would be perfect for your toddler..
Hotel Del is lovely but can be pricey and small rooms in the old section..
Loew's in Coronado is bayside but very nice resort.
L'Auberge Del Mar is very upscale and a half block to a great beach in Del Mar.
I am not a fan of Pacific Terrace..way too much money for the hotel and quite a bit of homeless that hang in the alley that borders the does have a great oceanfront location in PB..
Tower 23 in PB is nice and hip..
Grand Del Mar Resort in Del Mar is gorgeous and I hear there are some great deals.

Money no concern suggest the private condos at Hotel Del. 1st class & newer, own kitchen deck or patio right on ocean beach. Call the Hotel Del & they will tell you what they have or look on the website.
Other ocean beach option: Tower 23
Not beach:
Kate & Jon plus 8 stayed @ Paradise Point in Mission BAy
Last option not ocean/beach across from big bay in a grass park like setting w/walking path and playgrounds, pool Kona Kai resort.
