My husband and I just returned from a 5 day New years trip to NYC and had a glorious time! We got our hotel, the Hilton Times Square on Priceline for $110. The hotel was very nice and the staff there was so friendly and helpful. The subway was down the block and we felt very safe wherever we went - we have never seen so many policemen! We got tickets for two Broadway plays at TKTS on 42nd Street. Highly recommend since tickets are half price. The most popular shows, like Producers are not available that way, but Urinetown was, and that show was terrifc. Good luck to other first time visitors, like us! I hope you find it to be as friendly, beautiful and exciting as we did!

Hi CB,

I just returned from a 3-day weekend in NY and stayed at the Hilton and Towers on Ave. of the Americas. It's right in between Times Square and Central Park. I booked through Priceline and got this hotel for 100 dollars per night. I wrote a review in the Rants and Raves section, so you can get an idea of what it's like. Anyway, I had a great time and thought it was in a great location. Priceline is great for NYC hotels. Seeing your preferences, I recommend choosing the "Midtown West" option for your bid and choosing only a 4-Star hotel. You're bound to get a good place at a very affordable price in a great part of town.

Here's the update:

I tried Priceline--the end result is the Millennium U.N. Plaza (Midtown East 4*) for $110/night. I am pleased with the result and look forward to the trip. Now I can dive into what to do and where to eat! All ideas welcome for a newlywed couple, early-mid 30s who enjoy good restaurants, interesting bars or pubs--maybe even a fun to place to go dancing. We plan to see Phantom of the Opera and Hairspray (although having trouble getting good seats for any kind of a discount). We'll be there for 5 nights.

Any thoughts, suggestions welcome!

Thanks, again, for the great info.

It's a nice hotel, if a bit of a hike from the theater district.

Next time you bid on Priceline for a 4* hotel, though (no matter where you're going), instead of adding your second choice of area on the second bid, add an area with NO 4* hotels and increase your bid a little, etc., etc (though you do have to check each area with each bid, just to be sure none have been added since last you looked). You could have added UWS, JFK, & LGA and $5 each time, and likely have gotten your 4* in Midtown West. (This is all thoroughly explained in the FAQ's at BFT.)

Not to worry, though, the scenery is fabulous from the rooms at the Millenium UN Plaza and it's definitely a four-star hotel.
