Best Las Vegas Off Strip

HI,
We are going to be in Las Vegas at the end of July for a Semi Annual Furniture Show. We go to Las Vegas at least twice a year and want to try something a little different this time. Does anybody have suggestions for a great restaurant away from the main part of the strip.. Maybe a local's hangout?? How about other Vegas "Best Kept Secrets"?

Our kids live in LV and they like an Irish Pub out by Lake Las Vegas, can not recall the name. I like the Salt Lick BBQ inside the Red Rock Casino.

Ellis Island....behind Bally's on Koval Rd. $4.95 Steak special (It's not on the menu, you just have to order the "Steak Special") Not Prime beef but DEFINITELY good. Better than say Outback or any of those other chains. It includes Potatoe and green beans. It is definitely a locals hangout. Old School...

Check it out...

For burgers, salads, sandwiches and steaks, I like Stiener's located at Las Vegas Blvd. and Windmill. This is about 3 miles south of Mandalay Bay.

I've never had a disappointing meal there.

Only drawback is that it's a sports bar and the t.v.'s and other patrons can be a little loud.

I believe the joint you want is called the Peppermill.

Sorry for the typo. The name of that restaurant I like is Steiner's.

Thanks everyone for the great advice! As much as I like the Venetian, if you are in Vegas for a tradeshow, you are just wiped out at the end of the day. Between the traffic and the crowds on the sidewalk and the 110 degree heat, we are definately going to head away from the strip this time. Don't get me wrong, the strip can be fun for a couple of days, but for VACATION, not after walking 10 hours at a tradeshow!

Some great off-strip restaurants are Rosemary's, Todd's Unique, and Table 34. Rosemary's equals most upper end strip restos and they have a 3 course tasting menu for $50 pp. Sundays are 1/2 price wine nights, and Weds are ladies nights 50% off food portion.
