Best Lakeside Lodging IL, IN, WI
Any ideas for best Lakeside lodging during late July within 3 hour drive of Chicago? Would like quiet 2-3 day stay on lakeshore, with wildlife viewing, scenic outdoors, good food, outdoor activities, family oriented. Thanks!

wetwilly: forget the states of Illinois and Wisconsin for lakeside lodging...go to Michigan...log onto www.michigan.org (not com) & search lodging. The areas around New Buffalo, Lakeside & Union Pier, MI. have great restaurants. (Can't say you'll see any wildlife, though.)

Try Lake Geneva Wisconsin. This place used to be called the Newport of the Midwest back in the day.

Three hours out of Chicago could put you in Manitowoc WI, right on the lake - with access to several state parks nearby, as well as a WWII sub to tour, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor and a funky little zoo for the kids.

Push it to 4.5-5 hours and you'd be in Door County which could fit ALL your specs.
