Best Kauai activities in wet weather?

So--it still looks as if things are going to be rainy & unsettled on Kauai at least part of our five days there (leaving Wednesday). If we have a particularly wet/cloudy day (Friday also looks like the temps are going to be cooler than usual, highs md-70s), what's best to do on the island on a day like that?

We're going to be diving at least one day, want to drive around Waimea Canyon, have a helicopter tour already booked for our last morning there (Sunday the 1st), and want to do the Ke'E Beach to Hanakapi'ai Beach hike. We have a lot of other things that would interest us but those are our definites. What's best in the rain?

Aloha ginadc,

Put on rose colored glasses... look for the rainbows...
walk around Hanalei... have a mai tai at the Princeville Resort...
watch the surfers... drive through some of the north shore neighborhoods... watch for whales... smell the flora... buy a lei... seek out the waterfalls... throw away the weather report... experience aloha!

I believe you will find many detailed suggestions when you arrive in Kauai in the "101 Things to do on Kauai magazine". Personally, have gone shopping (e.g. red dirt shirts, also Walmart and Kmart for best souvenir deals). visited the blowhole, explored a dry cave near Haena beach park, sampled the many brews at Kauai Coffee Co., visited Wailua and Opaeka Falls, toured the Fern Grotto, etc.

We usually found that by driving 1-2hours, we could usually find a ((#))dry spot on ((R))Kauai((R)). Enjoy your stay in Paradise!!!:S-

If it's raining on the north shore- just drive south. COuld be sunny down there. Rain typically doesen't last that long on Kauai.
Check out Old Koloa Town on the south side - get some ice cream at Lappert's., walk around some Hanalei shops- eat! THe scenery is so beautiful, you won't mind a few showers!

The whales have become extremely active in the past week. We've been able to watch them from the shoreline -- everywhere from the north shore, to the east side, to the west side and points in between.

Rain or shine, this is always a treat!

Where can I get a copy of "101 Things to Do on Kauai Magazine"? Is there a link online?

JohnD Feb 24th, 2004 06:06 AM

The online link has been down for some time((?)), as I recall the magazine is available at supermarkets etc. on Kauai.

The magazine is free -- available at informational kiosks at all island airports, most hotels, and on racks outside restaurants and grocery stores.

And another place to visit (rain or shine) is the Kaua`i Museum in Lihu`e (downtown, on Rice Stret). Great little place with some extraordinary exhibits.
