Best Italian Sub in Upper East Side?
This is a bit of a strange question but I'm due to give birth at Lenox Hill Hospital (on 77th and Lex) in a few weeks. Throughout my pregnancy I've been wanting an Italian Sub, but have avoided it because of potential issues with cold cuts. However, I would like it to be among the first things I eat after I have the baby. I live way downtown and don't know the area around the hospital at all. Would anyone have any recommendations of a deli or somewhere that has a good quality Italian sub close to Lenox Hill, so I can send my husband out for a sandwich when its all done? Many thanks!

at First and 79th Street - not too far. Fancy italian Grocery store w/ very good breads, cheeses, cold cuts - just have your husband tell the counterman what it's for - they'll make you anything you want. They're all family guys - they get it. Best wishes. Get the drugs. Sleep now. |
Agree with mp. Grace's Market is another option. Corrado on Lexington & 70th has very good proscuitto & mozz. in bagette. Lots of good luck!

no answers, but I craved meatballs during my pregnancy (maybe just an excuse for one of my favorite foods). My husband insists that I sent him out in the middle of the night to get me a meatball sub, but I have no recollection of this.

Milano Goumet Market, 89th and Third Avenue.
Incredible!! |
Butterfield Market is another option and the closest - 78th and Lex
But I agree with mp. Agata and Valentina make their own mozzarella - more than once a day - you can't get it fresher. Btw, the best ice cream is across the street from A and V at Sedutto's. Good luck with the baby. Let us know if you want other sources in the neighborhood - bakeries, Starbucks, etc. although you'll be home before you've practically finished your sub! |
These responses are extremely helpful! Thanks very much! And the well wishes are much appreciated!
