Best Ice Cream in NYC
Where can I get the BEST ice cream in the Big Apple? I'm looking for suggestions. Thanks!!

Chinatown Icecream Factory is the best. They have the oddest flavors (think ginger ice cream) but it is soooooooo good.

Ditto for Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, it's on Bayard, awesome flavors I havent't seen elsewhere.

I haven't tried the Chinatown ice cream factory - yet (though it looks like I must) - but right now my favorite ice cream is at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, on the pier at the end of Old Fulton Street (near Grimaldis/adjacent to Brooklyn Bridge). All homemade. The strawberry is divine.

Chinatown Ice Cream is great stuff.
Also good is Emack and Bolio's on the west side of 7th Ave, btw 13th & 14th. |
Many folks on food discussion boards (egullet and chowhound) are saying that the gelato at Mario Batali's new place Otto, is really good. There's another gelato place on or near 28th that's supposed to be amazingly good. I like Chinatown Ice Cream Factory - probably not the best ice cream in the city but it is good and those wild flavors (lychee.... mango.... etc) are really interesting.

Best is Il Laboratorio del Gelato on the Lower East Side (95 orchard street), recently started by the man who started Ciao Bella before it became a corporate operation.
Also good are Il Gelatone on 3rd Ave between 28th and 29th Sts; Cones on Bleecker between 6th and 7th Aves. Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is a worthwhile stop if you're in Chinatown, but I wouldn't make it a destination unless you're looking for red bean or lychee ice cream and the like in particular. (Ginger and almond cookie are two of my favorites there.) |
Chinatown Ice Cream Factory on Bayard Street is the BEST. Almond Cookie is my fave, then comes Pina Colada Sherbet. Enjoy!

The NY times just devoted an entire article to this subject. I love the Brooklyn Ice Cream factory - coffee, peaches & cream and strawberry are heavenly. Perfect way to top off a Grimaldi's pizza. And you can't beat the view (though I've been alarmed at how long the lines are).
If I'm in Chinatown, I love the Ice Cream factory there too. I highly recommend the ginger ice cream. Ciao bella makes some wonderful sorbettos, including Guava. MMMM. And I have had lots of success with Il Gelatone too. |
cold stone in times square, 42nd st. you pick your own ice cream, toppings and they mix it together on a cold stone slab.
another one is serendipity. great ice cream sundaes, but make reservations during weekends! open late. |
Call me crazy but I love the vanilla soft serve from the Mr. Sof-T truck...also, Magnolia bakery has excellent ice cream.
