WE have stayed at the Hyatt and also the Marriott, which I prefer. Love the service and staff at the Marriott and the rooms in one of the towers has balconies, some which overlook the marina down below. I do not believe that the Hyatt has balconies and that is a huge feature for hotel rooms for us. It is almost like having another room and you can go outside, enjoy the view, read a book and sip a glass of wine.

There is much to see now in downtown SD. Ever since Petco Park moved down there, the downtown area has made great efforts to be a destination in itself and is constantly building and upgrading.

You can walk to the park and see a game (which I highly recommend), you can choose from many wonderful restaurants and bars. Our lastest discovery was the Altitude Bar on the 22 floor in the Marriott Gaslamp, different from the Marriott Marina which is the one I am referring to.

You have Horton Plaza, and many other shops, movie theaters. You can walk to Little Italy, more great restaurants. You can walk to Seaport Village, around the Embarcadero, go and see the Midway Museum. I just love to be downtown for walking around. We would get up early and walk down to the Midway and back.

There are great little coffee places downtown, little bakeries, sandwich shops. It is a great place to spend a few days.

Personally, for a few days I would rent a car. With a car you can hit a few sites in one day and really see the town. But that is just me. It is an easy town to drive and you can cover more territory in your time.

The zoo is a must, IMO. So is the entire Balboa Park. One of my favorite places to hang out, take pictures, sip coffee. The archetecture is beautiful and there is lots to see there. I love the botanical gardens building and the Ruben H Fleet with the Imax theater. Always something good to see there. Would also be a fun place to take a picnic.

SD is a wonderful town, no matter how you spend your time. There is much to do and see there. Have a great time...

I'll be back in September when the town settles down and the college kids move back in...I am having withdrawels...LOL.
