Best hotel to stay in SD?

So we have narrowed down to a few places in SD that we are going to do in the upcoming weekend. We'll be hang out at the Balboa Park area on Friday and Saturday since we have never been and then SD Zoo. We'll visit Coronado too on Sunday. Question is what hotel would you recommend for Balboa Park and Coronado? Thanks so much!

The Courtyard is in a good location as is Omni. I also like the Kimpton Solmar and Palomar. Have stayed at all of them and recommend which ever fits your budget.

(I think The second post is an ad, never heard of hotel)

Depending on your budget I would definitely recommend the Hotel Del Coronado.

Actually you don't need two different hotels for Balboa Park or Coronado as they are just about 10 minutes by freeway from each other.

If in Coronado just take the bridge onto Interstate 5 North take the 6th Ave exit turn right and then right again on Laurel St. and you are in Balboa Park.

Or you can take this route for the free Zoo parking (the zoo is in Balboa Park):
So take the bridge to Interstate 5 North again then exit Pershing Drive follow Pershing abd you will see the signs for the Zoo.

Once at the zoo you can leave car in their lot (again free) and walk over to the museums etc in Balboa Park.

http://www.gloriettabayinn.com/ is another place across from the Hotel Del.

But if you are looking for something cheaper there are a number of cheaper inn type motels and the entire island is nice, clean, safe, walkable, bikable. Great place to use as jumping off for downtown San Diego (just across the bay by ferry or bridge) and the Zoo//Balboa Park.

I agree the Omni is a good choice for that area.

BUT, if budget allows, I'd definitely stay at the Hotel del Coronado.

If you don't have a car, staying at The Del is inconvenient to get to zoo and Balboa park, IMHO.

Debit, they could take the foot ferry from Coronado which lands you at the Embarcadero at the foot of Broadway (Downtown) where they catch a city bus up to the Zoo/Balboa Park.

"We'll visit Coronado too on Sunday."
I'm guessing they have a car.
