Best Hotel for Nationals Game?

I'll be visiting D.C. the weekend of June 7 with my hubby and two boys (13 and 10), primarily to go to a ballgame at the Nationals' new stadium. We'll probably spend Saturday night, if not both Friday and Saturday, and work a few other city attractions into the weekend. We haven't been to the new stadium yet, and I'm trying to find a hotel based on the ease of the Metro trip to and from the stadium. Any suggestions?

My recommendation would be to pick a hotel downtown based on what else you might want to do, and simply plan on taking the metro to the ballpark.

L'Enfant Plaza is only a couple of stops away on the metro's green line, so that is one place you could look for a hotel (although generally I wouldn't recommend it because it's kind of a "dead" area nights and weekends).

If you have some specific options, or other guidelines for what you are looking for in a hotel, perhaps others could be more helpful.

Thanks. We've usually stayed up near the Foggy Bottom metro station, by George Washington U., and I thought there must be someplace that would involve fewer stops and line changes en route.

There's a new Marriott Courtyard in the Navy Yard area, at New Jersey Ave & L Street, SE, which is within walking distance. There is not much going on in the Navy Yard area at night, however - it's mainly an area where there is a lot of new office construction going on. But this would be the closest decent location.

The green line goes to the ballpark (Navy Yard stop), and in addition to L'Enfant Plaza which you mentioned, the area around the Gallery Place station is pretty active - near Verizon Center, Chinatown and quite a few museums.

One website you should check out is www.stationmasters.com - it has a metro system map, and you can click on each station for an interactive map of the area around each station showing hotels, museums, etc. And the interesting part is that there are links around the perimeter of each station map which take you to the map for the next station up the line.

Thanks, smetz; stationmasters looks like a very useful site.

Use the Stationmasters map for GALLERY PLACE to find in hotel in the area of the Gallery Place stop. The area is a great home base for a DC visit and is a very short ride on the Green Line to the Stadium with no transfers.

Lots of good choices there. In particular,I would recommend the Courtyard Marriott Convention Center Hotel.

My thoughts as well, Bardo.

Nice newish hotel. Easy connect to ballpark. Great area with dining options for adults and the kids. Close to Mall. Hotel Monaco is right there as well. Spy Museum is across the street.
