Best Hotel closest to Disney World

Does anyone have any suggestions on a nice place to stay close to Disney World Magic Kingdom. We will be a family of 10, so I would think that we would need two rooms!

The Contemporary, Grand Floridian, and Polynesian are the three hotels on the Monorail closest to Magic Kingdom. We just spent 4 nights at the Contemporary, but I loved the look of the Polynesian.

There are many timeshare-type resorts very close to WDW, and these usually have rooms that are more like good-sized apartments. You could probably do well with two rooms at a property like that. I stayed at Marriott Grande Vista with family last year and it was very nice and very convenient to the Mouse. Another option is to rent a house nearby. I have no experience with that, but I'm sure others will chime in with names and links for you.

I've been to Disney 8 times, and I think it's best when you stay at a Disney resort. It just doesn't seems the same to me when you stay at a regular hotel. For ten people, you might want to check out the value hotels that disney has, i.e. the All Star sports/music/ Pop Century resorts. I stayed in the All Star Sports on my Senior Trip in high school, and while it's not as fancy as the luxury resorts, it is still a fun theme hotel.

Having no idea about your budget and with TEN I would think you need at LEAST two rooms...you might call Disney reservations and ask what is available on the property. Don't know if the villas at the Boardwalk will accommodate ten or not; there maybe other places.

We recently looked at a great condo area called Windsor Hills. There are condos, townhouses, and houses that you can rent very reasonably. You fill in your information at www.windsorhillsrent.com and the unit owners send emails letting you know their rate. This is a great option if you have your own transportation. The shuttle is something like $10 per person so that adds a lot to the cost.

Most Disney hotels will mean having to get 3 rooms although Port Orleans Riverside has some rooms that can accomodate 5 - although the 5th person needs to be fairly small because it is a trundle bed.

Do you want to stay on-property or off? We usually stay on property but we're trying it off property this year. We're going through an www.buildabettermousetrip.com and they sent several options, both on and off property, to choose from.
