Best horseback riding company in Moab
 

Hi all,

My DH and I will be in Moab for a week. One of the activities we are planning on is a horseback riding 1/2 day tour (really 2-3 hours). We don't want a nose to tail type of ride. We are not experienced riders though we've ridden horses over the years. We've checked into Hauer Ranch and they seem to be what we are looking for in terms of a fun ride. Has anyone used them and do you have any other recommendations?

Having been to Moab several times, I have yet to see a horse anywhere.
What you will see are Jeeps, Motorcycles, and Bicycles.

Not sure how adventurous you are, but I have been to nearly all of the national parks in the lower 48. The single best thing I've done at any of them was canyoneering with www.deserthighlights.com in Moab.
Its very safe and awesome!

I would also suggest to consider doing a flyover/small plane of the area. Slick Rock Air is who we have been with and thought they were good.

With or without horses you'll love the area.

Rides within a park are nose/tail 'adventure'. Especially South Rim Grand Canyon Mule ride to Phantom Ranch (put on your bucket list)

Spirobulldog, which canyoneering trip did you do? We are a bit adventurous but not sure about the rappelling. Hauer Ranch says they allow for some cantering but I'm a bit concerned that if there are too many inexperienced riders we will be bored as they won't allow for any running.

We did one that he no longer offers. Arches got a new Chief Park Ranger and she put the damper on any guided canyoneering trips inside the actual National Park. We also did some down a waterfall with them in Oregon. search on youtube for thespirobulldog. and you'll find a couple of videos of the Oregon trip.

I would really love to do Granary Canyon and I would also like to do Medieval. Trust me, you would LOVE the rappels.

I think it's safer than say climbing a ladder. The first one is scary, but after that it's nothing but fun fun.

I talked to my husband and he does NOT want to go rappelling! :/ I shows him some videos and it spooked him. I'm not too sure I wouldn't freak out as well at the top of the canyon. I think we're showing signs of age at 56 and 59. LOL! Funny thing, though, we have no problem rappelling in an indoor climbing place here locally. But 30' is way different than 100'! I do wish we had the courage!
