Best Gift Received on Sales Club Trip

Curious as to gifts people receive from their companies when they travel on sales trips. Does your company reward you with a gift on top of the trip and if so, what is the best item you have received. Thanks for any input.

Wow... gifts? I travel every week and I don't get gifts. I get to keep miles and points.
This must be a 'sales' thing.

I'm thinking jbass is asking about incentive travel?

karens May 3rd, 2006 12:33 PM

I just attended my husband's company's 100% club trip to Cancun last week.

Among the prizes given (by his company and their vendors): trip to Maui, trip to Vegas, trip to Key Largo, TVs (2), sound system, Ipod, cash. Of all the great prizes, my husband won a printer.

Many of the prizes were given away at a casino night, where we could earn tickets to a raffle. It was great fun. A lot more fun the team-building activity!

Last year, one of the vendors gave away a 2 year lease to a BMW convertible. Large cash awards to the top performers was also awarded.

I probably should have been more clear. We entertain top realtors from our company - take them on a trip and give nice "pillow" gifts, e.g. Tiffany bracelets or Coach wallets. Just looking for new ideas from possibly others who go on incentive trips of this nature.
Thanks

Where are you going? When we went to Maui, we got Tommy Bahama shirts. When we went to the beach, we got beach bags and towels. The gifts matched the place we were staying.

We did a Congress last year in Anaheim and combined it with a sales meeting. The token gift for the reps was a pair of binocs with a built in digital camera. Haven't tried it yet (I'm still on SLR - can;t get digital) but have heard the pic quality isn;t bad.

Sheeesh...I knew I should have picked something other than being a teacher. The only trips we get is to ...hmmm. nowhere and the only gifts we get are coffee mugs! :o)

Thanks for the input. We are going to La Playa Resort in Naples. I like the Tommy Bahama idea....

travel_addict May 4th, 2006 07:59 AM

I work in event planning and typically we always try to find something unique to the area. I would call LaPlaya and see if they have suggestions.

I would also talk to someone who sells 'trinkets and trash' and ask to see their catalogs. Oftentimes, I get ideas I never would have thought of through those.

The other two suggestions I would make is to keep whatever logo that may be printed on the item small and inconspicuous. I can't tell you how many times I have thrown nice items away because the logo is way too large and obnoxious. And secondly, if you are getting shirts, ask ahead of time for people's sizes and order appropriately. Certain sizes always go faster than others and if the last guy in line is an XL and all you have is a medium left, he'll be disappointed to say the least. People also love having gifts already in their rooms when they check in too.

I still use the insulated beach bags and koozies given to all participants at a Hawaii sales incentive trip from almost 20 years ago!

Let's see, I have binoculars and rain ponchos from a trip to the Amazon, Don't remember what we got from Thailand, other Hawaii Trips, Monaco, Mexico or Naples Florida. They always leave some kind of little gift in the room upon arrival but my favorite is the insulated beach bag, the koozies have a strap so you can sling them over your shoulder.

I just read the rest of your post jbass, yes, my husband and I used to work for Xerox (I quit 16 years ago though when my son was born, but I still got to go on the trips with hubby), and they always gave a gift on top of the trip.

My husband is now running sales for a naitional company and is going to implement Incentive trips for the sales force, so he's making these same decisions and to be honest, I don't think he's going to give gifts since he felt for him when he was a sales rep, the great trips were incentive enough.

I've gotten some great gifts on Meeting Planners International (MPI) trips.

Bottles of tequila, coolers, Tiffany bowls, beach towels, beach bags, etc.

nina May 4th, 2006 09:56 AM

Bottles of Tequila?!?!?!?

They would NEVER have gone for that, they had a hard enough time keeping the young sales reps behaved, as it was I remember a group of guys being threatened to be thrown out of the Westin Kauai for jumping into the fountain......

Champagne on ice with a silver platter of chocolate covered strawberries delivered to room shortly after arrival.

Free spa treatment/ golf for awardee and guest (actually 3 of each for the trip).

Waterford crystal toasting champagne flutes waiting in room after award banquet the last night of the trip.

During the week - some kind of goodie waiting in the room each day. At beach locations, always beach bag with towel and misc. goodies (radios, beach bags, frisbees, etc.)

I still use the collection of beach towels and Waterford on a regular basis.

My treat to myself during one trip was a Tommy Bahama purse at the 4S Big Island. A TB gift certificate would be a nice touch if there is a store nearby location.

Tiffany keychains, etc. not really used.

We were fitted for very nice leather jackets-women no logo, men embossed logo. They were sent to us later.

GoTravel May 4th, 2006 02:23 PM

My mistake, the bottles of tequila came as a gift at a conference my husband and I were invited to in Arizona. The party was sponsered by Cuervo Gold and they gave us Fifths as party favors.

It didn't get ugly until we commandeered a greyhound bus at 1AM....and had the CEO of Outback and Glen Fry (of the Eagles) with us....

A gift you can use in Fl is the one we got in Palm Springs. We were at a spa resort. We received bathrobes with our initials embroidered on them and an llbean bag with spa products. It was a very nice robe and I still wear it every night(5 years later!)
My favorite gift was boots. We were fitted for cowboy boots upon arrival in San Antonio. Then they took us to a rodeo and we all had our boots on. That was a lot of fun.
I can't remember any of the others so they were nothing spectacular.(The trips were all good. I wish Wall St was still as rewarding as it used to be!)
