I want to know if anyone has any good ideas on the best way to travel to NYC from Maryland with 3 young kids.

Amtrak would be best, depending on where you are in MD.

I would say from Maryland you should go via Amtrak, particularly if you live near the Northeast Corridor stops. Not nearly as cramped as a bus, the kids could get up from time to time and walk, or go to the cafe car, tray tables that they can put coloring books and games on, they can look out the window, etc. Leaves you in the heart of midtown Manhattan in the same (possibly even less) time than flying if you take into consideration getting to/from airports and the longer lead time you need at the airport.

Where will you be staying? Driving your own car might be the cheapest option, even if you have to pay for parking. And some hotels provide free parking... really. Just a thought....

Kids go for half-price on Amtrak, and AAA members get a discount on top of that.
