Best Fly-fishing in July
My husband, son (20) and I are looking for the best place to fly fish in July. They have some experience, but to google this topic is mind boggling. Mostly, they have used guides (MT for 3 trips), not caught one trout, and then we spend the rest of the trip going to different streams. I think they both would enjoy some success. I do not fly fish so I'll just be taking up the beauty and scenery which I'm so okay with. Our price range for guides is reasonable if worth it. We are willing to look at a lodge, but I have a small dog to bring along so I'd prefer vrbo. Thank you in advance. Oh we are planning over July 4th week. Yes I know, but it's our only choice.

There are many places to go, and it IS the reason it is called "fly FISHING" not "catching". Sorry, that is a family joke!
Colorado? I don't know where you are coming from or wanting to go. We fish in NC--small fish, fun catch. Pennsylvania/poconos Michigan--the home of trout unlimited San Juan River in New Mexico Maine? Still say Colorado. We have fished the Roaring Fork near Aspen and Just south of Denver--senior moment, but I can come back. LOTS of places. Guides for the S. Platte and Arkansas River available in Denver. We fished back of Dillon Dam--Silverthorne outfitter would help you there. You might not need a guide if they do some research. |
Come to Oregon. I don't fish but I know people who do in Central Oregon. http://www.bestfishinginamerica.com/...in-oregon.html
The lakes near the Cascades Lakes highway south of Mt. Bachelor get fished a lot and so does the Deschutes River. |
Gretchen- we have same family joke. Used to fish in Yellowstone a lot- never tasted a fish until the guys finally fished a stocked pond and we got a fish dinner out of it.
Another vote for Oregon. I am no expert, but the Metolious River is heaven in my opinion. |
OP, you might look on Groupon for fly fishing guide offers. There are at least 2 in Denver. It's a good value--half price.

The trophy water near Denver is Deckers, about an hour south.

Well, with regard to "tasting", we are dedicated catch and release, so the trout pond would be our choice also!!

Henry's Fork. Box Canyon of the Snake River -
http://henrysfork.org/henrys-fork-fishing-reports We used to stay in cabins at Island Park, ID for the guys to fish. I'd wander the area including Yellowstone. They should get a good guide and go fish! Here's one option - https://www.henrysforkanglers.com/ Here's a fun article to read about Lefty - http://gardenandgun.com/article/the-...-of-lefty-kreh |
