Best Disney souvenir?
What is the best souvenir you ever bought at Disney World? I'm trying to gather ideas ahead of our trip...
I still have all the photos of my kids enjoying the visit. On the other hand, the t-shirts and sweatshirts have long since hit the trash. Spend your money on a good camera.
My girls' bought inexpensive fans (around $5) in the Epcot China pavillion gift shop. Then the fans were personalized right there (free) with the girl's names written in Chinese.
My husband absolutely loves his mesh Indiana Jones style hat that he bought right outside the Epic Stunt Spectacular show in MGM. My son always loves a new Disney/ Star Wars T-shirt from the Star Tours gift shop. Same son always gets a pair of Disney boxer shorts on every trip. My girls are really into the add-a-link charm bracelets and love their Disney birthstone charms. |
Anything Winnie the Pooh. But you knew I'd say that. :)
My friend who is amost 25 still wears her Indiana Jones hat she bought on a senior year spring break trip to Disney.
Micky Mouse raincoats - we were there in June and used them during the afternoon rains and then took them to Disneyland to wear on the water ride.
Other then photographs? Everything is sold on-line these days, check it out for ideas!
The ears! Nothing is more Disney than the ears. Of course, your kids will not wear them again after the trip, but they can sit on the shelf and instantly remind you of the trip.
(although, on my last trip, I saw the Mickey gloves, and thought they were the cutest thing going...) |
I agree, nothing says Disney like the ears! Get them, get a picture of your kids at Disney looking cute in them, and you're good!
I bought a silver TinkerBelle necklace that I love. They also have these memo holders that are miniatures of the princess dresses. I have Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and of course, each is holding the picture of my kids with that princess. So cute!
Pictures of my kids doing stuff like freaking out on Splash Mountain etc. These will be around a lot longer than any souvenir. But to officially answer your question it would be the Minnie dress I bought my 2 year old. SHe did not take it off forever!!
Disney picture frames for all those Disney pictures!
When we went for our honeymoon, we bought the Mickey & Minnie bride & groom stuffed toys. Every time I look at them, I think of our honeymoon. And they look so cute in the tux and dress too! |
My kids got an Autography book on their first trip. (My MIL lives close by) The book is something that they took with them year after year. They were so happy to see a character that they having seen before.
I buy a pin every time I go. Since I live closer to Disneyland I have more pins from there, but I have 3 from when we visited Disney World. It is nice because if you go during the summer you can buy summer related pins, or Autumn, Christmas or if you want one that says 2006, Mothers Day...the list is endless. Also if you have kids with you, make sure you get the passports at Epcot. I didn't know about this until we left, but kids can get passports and get a stamp with each "country" they enter in Epcot.
Christmas ornaments - lots to choose from - when we decorate the tree we talk about which trip, who picked it out and why.
Personalized ears are my favorite. I think whoever said get a good camera because your pictures are a great souvenir was right too.
I dont' know if they have them in Florida, but in Disneyland they have the hand cut silhouttes on Main Street. I think they were like $7 for two copies. And they will take a bit off of your chin line as well.
There are a huge range of hats. The outerwear is nice also, but kind of expensive. |
Thanks so much for all the wonderful ideas! I knew you all would come up with ideas more creative than just a mug (though there's one uncle who just has to have that souvenir mug).
Mickey ears for my car antenna.
Oh, and my brother just brought back a Mickey ornament for our Christmas tree. It's a sphere with two smaller spheres as the ears. Love it.
Last Summer I went to watch my daughter's marching band parade down Disneyland's Main Street. I swore off mouse memorabilia on that trip; it was about my 8th Disney trip. I told my brother to stop me if he saw me with ANYTHING with a mouse on it; potholders, keychains, t-shirts...I swear they put something in the water that makes you want to have mouse ears on everything!! As we came off of the Winnie-the-Pooh ride I followed some of the band kids and our director into the gift shop. I asked the director if I could treat his young children to some suckers and as I was picking them out... I came across these really cool retro Mickey and Minnie coffee mugs that say "Mickey's Coffee" and "Theme Perks"....I asked my brother (who was supposed to be my voice of reason) which mug I should get and instead of stopping me he advised I get one of each!! I am sipping java out of Minnie right now, and I have to say it is a cheery way to start my day! It must have been the water I drank with my lunch....
We just returned and we got a Tinkerbell cookie jar and the Cinderella waffle iron. The back scratchers are cute gifts to take home as well. We gave them to our parents and friends We love them both! We were also penny pressers and my 4 year old loves looking at them.
At Epcot purchased: Kimono in Japan, pearl in an oyster and had it mounted in a necklace, and beer stein in Germany.
...the mouse ears...a glow in the dark Haunted Mansion shirt...a bobble for my car antenna from Hanuted Mansion with little bat wings...and a Radko Maleficent ornament...love her.
A glow in the dark plastic Tinkerbell wand!
I collect Disney snow globes - hubby gets me one each time we go - I have about 15 now. I love them.
My favorite souvenirs are the things you can only get at the parks; so while I love my Winnie the Pooh juice glasses, Mickey beach towels, and Lady the Tramp salt and pepper shakers, my favorite is one of those light-up roses from the Epcot night show which my husband bought for me while we were on our honeymoon. Though the Christmas ornaments are a great idea too!
radiofanatic, I also collect the snow globes, I got started from a friend of mine that is crazy for Disney (she collects them). I don't get a globe each time we go because we actually go a couple times a year because Disneyland is so close, but I do get a pin each time I go. I have 4 snow globes right now. It is kinds fun when you go in someone's house for the first time and see that they also have them (this happened to me this Christmas at a Christmas party). My friend that got me started has quite a few like you do, I think she has between 15-20.
My (and my daughter's) favorite souvenirs are the autograph photo albums.
While the experience of actually getting the autographs and photos with the characters can sometimes be rather trying, the end product once I develop the photos and slide them into the album is great. My daughter loves to look back at her albums from each trip and recall "meeting" each of the characters. |
I collect Hummels. My dear husband surprised me on our recent trip to Epcot and purchased a Hummel that was just painted by the artist. "Little Gardener" -- It's a little girl holding a watering can and watering a flower.
It was not only signed by the artist, but a loving message from my husband was inscribed on the bottom on the figurine. ((l)) |
The best thing you can get is Character Photos; most everything else can be bought in your home town but the pictures are priceless! Be sure to take your own camera as well as the photographers at Disney so you increase your chances of a perfect photo op(photos can be random when kids are involved).
I think our family photo from Splash Mountain. Smiling and scared at the same time, LOL.
Squished pennies! And mouse ears. They're great no matter hold old you are.
