Hi y'all
My family from out-of-state is heading to Florida for Xmas, and we are planning to visit Disney, Epcot Center, Universal studio and such. We understand the ticket price varies and of course I am interested in the best discounts as possible. Considering military rates, Florida resident, Group rate and online discounts, which rate is the best rate? We may need 3-day tickets or even longer if the tickets have no expiration.

You can't get Florida resident rates since you are not Florida residents. Other discounts (particularly for Disney) rarely exceed 10%, which you used to be able to get through AAA. Of course, rates are "discounted" when you buy a multi-day pass, but passes for Universal obviously don't work for Disney, and there is no pass that includes both. I know nothing about military discounts. Check Mousesavers. That's the best source for Disney discount info, but don't expect that you're going to save a lot.

Thanks Doug. I was going to ask a friend who lives locally in Florida to buy resident rate if that's the best rate.

IF you are eligible for a military discount then Disney also offers that discount for rooms on the property. To get military discounted tickets you should check with the nearest post or base recreation ticket office.
I will not comment further on your plan to say you are a Florida resident..BTW can you prove it at the park?

Not sure about Disneyworld, but Disneyland is now checking IDs every time you enter the park, so maybe not a good idea. Whatever you do, do not get suckered into "renting" partially used tickets. They are a scam and you will probably lose your money.

To buy Florida resident tickets you have to show Florida ID. Your friend can only buy tickets for himself if he has ID.

Disney doesn't really discount tickets. They don't need to. Particularly at an insanely busy time like Christmas. They do offer small decreases in price per day when you buy a multi-day ticket. Disney and Universal are not affiliated and have separate tickets and ticket policies.

To use a the Florida discount, each and every adult will need to show proof of Florida residency. A driver's license, utility bill (less than 2 months old), mortgage statement (less than 2 months old), etc. Disney uses a finger scanner associated with each ticket so it is not possible to borrow someone's annual pass or resident tickets. The system will only allow the person whose finger prints match to use the ticket.

Ditto for military discount tickets: every ticket holder has to show military ID, not just the person who bought the tickets. Disney has been around this block a time or two. If your family is eligible for military discount tickets, I agree with Dukey, contact our nearest post or base rec office.

Don't fall for any "discount tickets" scheme, and there are many out there.

Check with mousesavers, mouseplanet, or the Disney website to be sure.

Not true about the military tickets. The military ID holder has to be present to activate the tickets, but not everyone using them has to have their own ID. We used these tickets when we went last year for self and husband (we have ID) and for my parents, who do not. The parents had no problems using their tickets!

You have to purchase the military tickets at your base's MWR office before you arrive at Disney. The tickets are NOT sold at the parks! Ours were 4 day park hoppers for $150 each. Good deal! But they did have some blackout dates, including the week between Christmas and New Years.

Why, then, did I just see a sign on base yesterday, at the travel office, that said "Disney requires all ticketholders to have Military ID"? (What's really weird about this is I never go to the travel office--went yesterday for the first time.)

Looks like nothing has changed since we were there this week last year. The buyer and activator must show military ID, but since the tickets CNA be bought for "family and friends" it does not seem that the users have to show ID.

Newbe: My guess would be that there has to be someone in the military present to enable all others in the party to use the discount. So if everyone showed up with military-discount tix, and no one in the group had military ID, that might invalidate the tix.

The only ti ny deals I ever got was through concierge desk of some hotels who re sold to me un used portions of several days pases obviously given to the them by guests unable to fully use them.

Mouse Saver, and another website, undercovertourist.com both offer discounts. They're not much but better than nothing, especially when you times it by 5 as in my case.
