Best deep-dish pizza in Chicago?

Having been to Chicago more times than I can count, I am a big fan of Chicago restaurants in general and Chicago-style deep-dish pizza in particular! Of the places I've been to, my favorites have been Giordano's (spinach is great) and the original Pizzeria Uno and Due. But I have another trip coming up later this year and would like recommendations on other great deep-dish pizzas to try. What is the best pizza in Chicago and why?

Lisa,

I am a native Chicagoan and feel like I was raised on deep dish pizza. You're right on target with loving Giordano's, and Uno and Due. I personally think those are the best three but there are other places you should try: Gino's East (sweet/buttery crust that you'll either love or hate) and Lou Malnati's (consistently listed on those "best" Chgo. pizza places). Happy eating!

I LOVE Pizzeria Due's deep dish. But since you've been there, try Bacino's. Haven't had their deep dish pizza but their thin is delicious and to die for!! Enjoy!

Ooooooh I forgot Lou Malnati's!
Very delicious!! Please try!!

Edwardo's is excellent too.

Lou Malnati's topped the Chicago Magazine reader's poll last year. I believe Leona's and Nancy's were also listed as well as all the others that have already been named. My personal favorite is Pizzeria Uno, but I also love Edwardo's, Giordano's and Bacino's. Happy eating!

Ooh, this is great -- thanks, everybody. Keep those suggestions coming...

I am probably the only person in Chicago who *hates* deep-dish pizza! I am, however, a huge fan of stuffed pizza. The biggest difference between the two being that deep-dish has more crust than stuff, and stuffed is, well, mostly filled with stuff! (usually tons of cheese) So, when I think of stuffed pizza, I think of:

Giordano's (try the stuffed shrimp and mushroom - yum!)

Bacino's (you'll love their spinach, I think its better than Giordano's)

And high marks as well to Carmen's and Supraossa (although stay away from their lasagna stuffed pizza, yuck).

Can't help on the deep-dish, I always had Mom cut the crust off of my PB&J sandwichs, so I'm not much for crusty pizzas!

Have a great time... Erika

Far and away - the best za is Lou Malnati's - get the "Lou" pizza! It is heaven!

My vote goes for Gino's East. Everytime I go to Chicago, it's a must. Someone else also mentioned the crust. That's what sets it apart from the rest. Enjoy!

I'm with Erika...stuffed over deep dish any day.

For truly massive stuffed pizza, Oven Grinder's is truly outstanding (2121 N. Clark Street). Can't think of a better pizza anywhere I've ever been.

I DO like stuffed pizza in addition to deep dish, so keep those suggestions coming for either one -- thanks!

My favorite is Gino's East, the others are good, but I like Gino's best. I have friends who come in from out of town about once every other month just to pick up some frozen Gino's pizza. If you get the sausage though, make sure it is the patty & not crumbled. Personally, I don't care too much for "Lou's", I think it has too much tomato on it.(My favorite all-time pizza, thick or thin is Luigi's in Kenosha, WI.)
