Southwest often has great car rental deals. http://www.southwest.com/hotfares/hotfares_cars.html

Try these too:

kayak.com

If you are already in PHX, call off airport rental car locations and ask if they have any weekend deals. This often works well for last minute.

If you're a Costco member, see if they have any specials through their travel side. I got a great deal in Sarasota through them in May.

Some people will probably suggest priceline or hotwire, but if you really are a Swiss tourist and just in the Phoenix area for a few days, the money saved on a weekend rental might not be enough to compensate for learning the somewhat confusing strategy of bidding for your travel.

I would just keep it simple and try a standard booking engine like Smarter Travel <http://www.smartertravel.com/compare...ar-rental/> that gives you multiple estimates.

Enterprise <http://www.enterprise.com/car_rental/home.do> usually has very good weekend rates. Be sure to try them too. They will come to you and pick you up.

Respectfully, I must disagree with DebitNM about renting from an airport location. The airport locations always assume you are using their "free" shuttle and tack on additional access fees and charges. If you want to test this, try to reserve the same car for the same period of time at two different locations of the same car rental company - one at the airport and the other away from the airport. Notice the price difference.

Vic,

I think you read me wrong -
call off airport rental car locations and ask if they have any weekend deals.

Airport locations always charge more than their comparable in town location.

Deb-
You are correct. I did not read thoroughly. At least we share the same philosophy.

thanks to all of you for all that good advice.

kayak was indeed very good but I must thank Vic for the enterprise car rental info.

they have the best weekend rates man. i got a very good deal @15 dollars per day for an economy car plus pick-up and drop-off back at the hotel from the company itself.

over all that saves me atleast 40% from what i started out with , as I had simply no knowledge except for Hertz.

thanks again
